Hello:
I am thinking about Taylor 98087 Spark Plug wires. Many of my 'Blue Oval' friends run and recommend Taylor wires.
I have a MSD Billet Distributor and MSD coil. Does anyone know if the coil wire in this set has the terminations (HEI on one end and male on the other).
And just an FYI I have Firecore wires now and just not that impressed with the fitment.
Thanks for any advice. Merry Christmas, Bill

I like Taylor wires, I've used them a bunch of times, good product. I get a universal set and cut them to fit. The molded and angled plug ends are cool, I usually get the 135º ones. The application-specific ones always seem to have too much length and wind up flopping around. If I'm not mistaken, the universal type usually come with both the conventional and "HEI" terminals so you can make them up as you wish.

The only thing I will say is that the Holley/MSD plastic distributor cap wire retainer thing would not really work with the 8mm Taylor terminal boots. If you're looking at 10mm wires there's no way it would work. I didn't care about that though. I used a combination of OE-type and MSD wire separators along with some valve cover stand-offs to keep them away from the headers.

This is on the small block in my Duster.

I have Taylor wires on my GTX and my 66 427 Corvette, from kits. They have worked flawlessly for 25 years on the Vette and probably about 16 or 17 years on the GTX.

Hey Bill,
I have used many sets of Taylor wires on several cars over the years. I like these for my RB big block. No spark leaks with headers and an MSD ignition.

Yes. Forgot to say that the kit has the plug ends installed and you cut each wire to length, using either the HEI terminals/boots or the standard terminal/boots. Both are supplied. Same for the coil wire. They offer these in straight, 90* or 135* (mine) plug boots depending on your header or manifold configuration. I think they're a good value for the money...

The retainer thing didn't work for me because I routed the opposite-side wires in between the terminal towers which covers up the threaded holes for the long screws. My #1 plug terminal points towards the alternator spacer almost opposite of where coloradodave has his #1 which makes the routing totally different. On my 383 there is hardly any room between the distributor cap and valve cover so running the wires between the towers was the most efficient use of space. It also enables the use of shorter wires which means less voltage drop. Again, I don't care about the retainer, the wires aren't going anywhere with or without it. More than one way to skin a cat though, this is just the way I did it.

That MSD tool is sure nice. I use this one that came with some MSD wires years ago but is available by itself. Works great with a razor knife and vise to strip the insulation and crimp the terminal. Under $10.

I see that it got bad reviews on Summit's site. I wondered why until I saw that a few don't own a vise, and yes, you need to slightly crimp the terminals to get them to set in the tool a little better. Can't count how many sets of wires I have done with this tool. HAD NO PROBLEMS...
