Air cleaner to tall in my 1967 satellite convertible

When I first bought my 67 Coronet it had a 440 with 383 air cleaner. When I got a 67 air cleaner I had to use the other base as the new ones top fit over the base like the unsilenced air cleaners. Still left imprint on hood insulation.

Ok, I know the 66 is shorter. And the performer is a hair talker than the 69. Use 2" filter and an open element 10" aftermarket base. Fit the stock top over it. Gives you an extra inch to work with.

Just to clarify the top pick is the 67 440 and bottom is the 383 with 440 decal? BTW that is a clean engine bay! Love the color also!

Your saying use small circumference base and instead of it locking into the base it will go below base and sandwhich the filter?

This is why you always see '66-67 b bodies with a hood scoop. No clearance for anything beyond the standard Performer intake if you run a decent air cleaner.

According to the Edelbrock website for a 440:
Performer RPM Manifold is 1.7" taller than stock.
Performer 440 manifold is an inch less than that.

That is correct. The 440 Magnum cover is slightly larger and fits over using same filter. Thanks regarding engine bay but the 440 is long gone and there is A 66 street hemi in there now.

So as you probably already know your suggestion was correct! Worked like a champ! Lots of clearance and not hitting the hood! Thank you guys so much!

Any concern with air flow using smaller air filter?
