No longer selling parts here

I think a lot of people that don't sell are shocked by shipping costs.

I haven't sold anything on this forum, but have sold quite a bit on Ebay, Facebook, Craigslist, etc. Shipping costs have risen steadily over the years.

I have bought one thing on this forum and it turned out great. I have bought online many other places, forums have always worked out well.

I think with any transaction its a must to check on the reputation of your trading partner.

I have been guilty myself of dropping a conversation cold in the past, I guess from just laziness. But never after I said I was actually going to buy or sell. As a seller I figure other sellers just know that every conversation doesn't mean a deal has been made.

Kind of the same thing with dickering on price.

Some people enjoy it, or at least expect to do it.

Others get insulted by an offer under their asking price.

And you always have your lowballers... I just take it as part of the business transaction.

I will say that there does seem to be this idea that if you ask about an item or express interest in it that you are committed to buying it.

I don't have a dog in this either. But it seems by the OP's rag about his bad experiences selling, and others positive experiences with buying, I'd have to say that the sellers doing it wrong if they are having the problems that they are. Good Luck

After being in the car business for 40 yrs now retired of course, know how you feel.
We did call them, Be Backs, usually never heard back from them.
Part of the business, glad I don't deal with it anymore.

A person really needs some defensive moves when dealing with pros, such as car dealers.

I'm sure its a 2 way street, but for the average person I would say the advantage lies with the salesman since he does it for a living.

Ah my packed box's that don't go usually go fairly soon I just mark what's in them and re list only thing I had to unpack was two steering columns I think shipping scared this dude away (I told him) but they sold locally so no big deal there !
When you deal with known members it's alot easier !

The biggest PITA to me about selling via any forum that requires you to ship, is finding an appropriate box, packing material, the actual packing and a shipping quote.

At least that part of the work is done for items such as the above. The only part left other than a new buyer, is the actual drive to the shipper (and the bank).

Buyers spend little time thinking about the hassle of packing. many car parts don/t lend themselves to being packed easily. it all takes time. I recently shipped an engine overseas, and finding the right pallet, securing it properly, and getting the whole pkg to a warehouse takes time and planning. I had to anticipate the fork lift driver not only moving the pallet just to the truck, buy getting it on a ship, and ensuring that it survives a month at sea!

I have a complete pre bent steel fuel line in the box for a 1970 B body Road Runner that I would give to anyone that could use it. They shipped me this one by mistake and didn't want to pay to ship it back. It is a big box and the shipping amount would be very painful......

If you post the dimensions, I would be grateful to have it. depending on how painful it would be for me.LoL

Try selling a set of frame rails and buyers thinks they should get across the country for $50/pr... yeah try $200+ now if the shippers will even accept them anymore. USPS would take front A body rails, rear rails are too long.

There's a reason that many sellers put "pick up only" on large items. Never seems to slow down the asking for shipping quotes.

That's why I gave parts to friends and one to someone here. Big stuff I sold to friends so cheap they had to buy it. I have never been screwed because I will spend thousands to get back 50 bucks and I tell people that right up front. It's sad and I'm sorry for the acts of others to break the faith in the good ones who are just selling to lighten their load. What happened to just being an honest person. Greed!!

As someone who has to have literally everything shipped in, thank you to all who are not too lazy to ship. Because really, that’s the reason. Fair enough. But if you’re too lazy to ship you’re entirely welcome to come here to the arctic in person to pick up any parts I’m selling. For the rest of you I’m happy to ship.

What gets me about people who start threads like this.....is if you ain't willing to comment on the reasons why you feel the way you do, then why even bother starting a bitch thread!?

Because they have little to nothing else better to do!

You I would love to meet in person and buy a few drinks. We would get along.

Where else could you post FS parts for free with pics
to a better target audience?
I usually sell about 50% of parts I list.
Time to sell off hoards of parts I will never use before it is too late!

I'm still hedging my bets that he's expecting folks to send a money order before their parts go out.. but I've been wrong before...
