i was wondering if you could help me.i just bought a 67 wagon .the tailgate was down when we went to look at it so i know the rear window will go down.now that we have it home i cant get the rear window down.the crank moves slightly then there is a hard stop in either direction.the window moves maybe an 1/8 of an inch and stops dead.the po said he never locked it and it worked fine for him.i have a key and it turns it about 90 deg but does the same in either position.it seems to be locked somehow .could there be something simple im missing?i think the next step is to remove the whole lock assembly but it looks like its bolted from the inside and hidden behind the gears.any ideas? does anyone know where i might get an exploded view of the tailgate components?

I'd give it some grease in the tracks. The parts are hard to find, so you don't want to break anything. The motors get wet when the outer weatherstrip cracks, and the gearbox often is aluminum. If the interior panel can come off with it closed, you might have to work from inside. Make sure the battery is fully charged also.

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

i still cant find any info at all on this.
ive even emailed ppl ive seen with similar cars but they all have power and mines manual.
do any of you know what popsition the key needs to be in for it to go down?
if i were to somehow remove the lock cyl do you think it would go down?would i need to turn something with a screwdriver?
sorry but im just so fustrated.
the po didnt have a problem and when we went to look at it the gate wasd down as well as the window.
i just think im missing something simple.

On my '62 Savoy wagon, when the tail gate is locked, the key (teeth) is straight up and the handle will rotate freely.
Turn the key 180 degrees and the tail gate is unlocked and the handle is engaged.
I had a '69 Belvedere wagon with a manual window crank. I think it worked the same way.
A lot of Mopar parts suppliers sell door lock cylinders, but I'm not sure about tailgate lock cylinders. You might try ebay.

I have a '72 wagon, with two separate locks - one is for the open/close handle, the other is in the crank for the window. On mine, the window crank simply won't turn if it is locked. I have had some issues with mine sticking in the past due to age - I removed the interior panel and hit the mech with WD40 and it worked for me.

I recently had the same issue with my just-purchased '70 Charger - the rear quarter windows would go down about 1", and lock up (also manual-crank). I pulled the interior panels from those and sprayed the mech with white lithium grease, and now they both go up and down like brand new. I had to run them up and down a couple times, and make sure I got all the contact surfaces (tracks, wheels, gears and pivots), but now that they're done...they're like butter. And the white lithium should last pretty much forever (I hope).

thanks triplegreen.......could you please explain the key operation for the window?
the key goes in with the teeth up then you turn it in what direction?
should it turn in either direction?
is straight up unlocked?
