Anyone know if the transmission shift cables from a pushbutton transmission shifter on the dash are the same as a console-equipped car on a '64 Polara? I have a chance to pick up a console and shifter but no other parts.

I don't believe they are, simply because of the length of the run needed for placement and operation. I know there is a vender that has the cables you'd need, and someone should chime in for that. Those year B-Bodies are nice with buckets, and a floor console...

Console cable are shorter. I believe I may have some.

You will need the console shift cables! Aside from the length, the ends are different on the shifter!

The cables are different. More importantly, the "rooster comb" on the trans valve body are also different. The different combs are reproduced by A&A Transmissions in Indiana. The valve body in 1965 Torqueflight will directly interchange with 1964 console shift. I found out the hard way that if you convert to console shift on '64, but still have push button valve body, you will not have PARK.

Wow guys, more to it than just cables I see. So with that being said, I have a slip-spline '65 cable-shift trans that, by the sounds of it, will work properly with the '64 console cables, am I right? Doug, if this all comes together I'll contact you on those cables.

Yes, it will work. The '65 valve body and '64 console shift valve body have same "rooster comb" on them. It has to to with the shifter and comb going through the "Park" movement. On push button valve body, the comb does not move when Park is selected through separate lever.
