Has anyone made the upgrade to 11/16 tie rods on their 73/74? I want to be sure there isn't any clearance issues with the larger tie rods. My car has been apart for a long time and can't remember home much clearance there was with the smaller tie rods. Ironically the beefier part is much cheaper than the originals.

Haven’t heard of this. My car could use new tie rods could you explain what you have going on? Just bigger tie rods?

Exactly what Hemi-itis says. It's an old upgrade that I've seen on late sixties cars. Replacing their 9/16 tie rods for 11/16 tie rods from a C-body. Gives you a stronger part, but probably overkill for the street. I've heard of 3rd gens doing it also, but can't find much info on it. You can purchase tie rods and of course the larger sleeves from a 74 Newport or Monaco, for example. Some suppliers, like PST, sell solid sleeves if you aren't concerned about a stock look. Some say it gives you a tighter feel. The price seems to be the same for both sizes of Moog, but the larger tie rod is cheaper for a company like Proforged. I was considering Proforged and the larger tie rod is half the price of the smaller one. Must sell a lot more of the larger size.

Honestly, no needed back in the days, even less now. I never have known a steering Or suspension failure due the stock 9/16 size tie rods or sleeve.

If you were to make off road driving, still could think on that, but regular driving?

There are beefier aftermarket sleeves on 9/16 size if you are worried about that.

this is an example for a beefier tie rod adjuster sleeve. It states up to 72 Charger but I'm sure lates are available ( if they are really diff ). there are many around

I agree with you Nacho that it isn't needed for a street car. I was only considering it because the larger Proforged tie rod is half the price. I have read so many bad reviews about Moog that I was looking for a more quality part.

If its for cost, well that's another story, but all depends also on what parts you already have. I meant, if you have to get the sleeve along with the tie rod ends, how cost effective really is againts get just a good set of correct 9/16" ends ? Diff story is if you already have in hands the 11/16" sleeve from... somewhere ( JY ? ) for free ? just thinking out loud.

I'm just thinking like being myself. Maybe I could get any performance part to upgrade my car just for satisfaction if I have the money even if is not really required. But while I don't have the money, I just get focused on get the right/nice parts on the budget. I.E.: I got slotted and drilled rotors, for my car and ceramic pads, but just because their price was barelly 10-15% more than stock replacements! and they were bolt and go for my car, no mods or extra parts needed.

I got the Rev-N-Nator mainly because was tired of failing ECUs around me, sure is not cost effective against some other options ( althought I got the releasing price being on the waiting list for a year or so, something like US$100 ? can't recall, but definitelly not the later/actual price ), but... no mods needed and still can run any stock piece plug and play... did you get what I mean ?

Once again, just being me, just opinions.

It's actually up to you :p

BTW... no clearence problems with the larger size. I know ppl already made it without problems. There is no anykind of interference with anything around to get worried about

Thanks nacho, I'm the same way. Good to know there aren't any clearance problems. I was going to replace my sleeves just so everything is new, but maybe I'll look at them again.
