Hello all,

The trunk lid on the GTX wasn't properly adjusted prior to it being repainted (whenever that was). The gap between the filler panel and the trunk lid panel was excessive, and the gap on the left edge was greater than on the right. The rubber seal is also new (repop I assume). The lid is difficult to close unless slammed.

I had a friend get into the trunk and help me adjust the gaps. We were able to quickly reduce the gap between the trunk lid and filler panel, but could not determine a way to equalize the left/right gap measurement.

Do the lid support brackets themselves have a left/right adjustment allowance?

Thanks.

The seal will relax in time if you leave it compressed.
You need to post a couple pics of the lid closed so we can tell you what way to move it.
The adjustment is at the hinge to lid bolts.
Keep on mind if your latch is off left or right it will drag the lid over even if you have it adjusted at the hinges.
I like to remove the latch then after you get the lid on place re install the latch centered with the catch.
Then adjust down to compress that new seal. Just dont over do it
Also will add if your car has had qts. Installed ect. You may have to just split the difference.
Also you can shove / tweak that lid a little if needed, :)

Open the trunk & physically shove it hard in the direction it needs to move, You need to slightly bend the support/hinge arms....

I haven't got into a newer B so I can't say for sure but the older Bs had a piss poor hinge design and would wear oval which screws with deck lid adjustment. Look at the attached photos for my correction.

Thank you everyone for your advise. Yep, I did try and physically force it left after i got the front gap where I wanted it. I later related with my friend that it's likely the latch itself needed adjustment too (thank you for the confirmed notion '67c') and I will try that next. (My helper is 5'2" and is handy with a flashlight and ratchet... she easily fit in the trunk and said she'd help again. :))
