I've owned this car for 30+ years and never noticed this. Left hood hinge lower attach bolt hole is not there. It was never there from the factory. Doing some work I noticed the bolt missing. Further investigation revealed this. WTF?
Doesn't surprise me. These cars were just somebody's 8 hr job. Bang 'em together, shove 'em out the door. They weren't fawned over like they are now.
Weirdest thing I've personally seen/found was in a '73 Satellite 4dr I bought as a parts car years ago. Where the floor pan met the rocker, there was a small section with no welds. Come to find out, in that spot was an uncut, new, trunk key wedged between the panels. It had to have been put there when the car was built, but why? Or even, how? I had that key for the longest time, but eventually lost it.
My current wagon has a huge paint run on the dash between the ash tray and glovebox. There are a number of areas where it looks like somebody was learning how to use a welder. Quality control?
Yeah copy all that. Just got done putting a new engine in the car and noticed the hinge was bending. inboard. That's what I first noticed. With the hood attached it's straight. Never a problem opening and closing the hood. Guess I'll drill a hole tomorrow and see if I can get a bolt on the back.
