My Meyers Snow Plow

Geezus...two alternators!

I know I need to upgrade to a larger amp output alternator...just the stock unit on my ramcharger now and with lights and other functions on the plow is slow, or if the plow is moving the lights and other functions barely work.

1000 cold cranking amps battery helps, but if motor was bad it would have been pulling all kinds of amperage

Well gents - revisiting my old post as the plow gremlins won't go away...back looking for some tips. The plow 'works' but ahh...like chit. Super-super slow and will decide to respond to controls and more not so much. I've swapped the A and B coils, cleaned the filters, and today put it back in the vice pulling the motor. When I took it off, fluid leaks through the motor shaft seal like nuts. So might assume that seal is bad and getting one from a supply store tomorrow for $15. Anyone replaced this seal (see pasted photo around the slot/drive shaft)? I ordered a seal kit (for the ram I'm waiting on) and getting a nice deal on a new motor so ordered that too. I've read about how this seal can be removed by drilling a small hole in it, inserting a screw to pop this off. Interested to know what you folks having messed with these have done. Thanks!

Thanks much! When my motor arrives I'm going to see how my rebuild turned out. Might be in contact!

I could use a drivers side frame mount plate for my Sno-commmander Ramcharger. Must have hit something hard at some point in it's life and they cracked/tore the bracket, then did a serviceable repair...but it looks horrible!

the back bottom lower plate?
yes i have that ill have to see what condition its in,that truck was used.
i went over to the job and all the plows were western but one.
it is a 47 i think,see pics.
apologies in advance for shitty pics/cell fone.

Uprooting my old post to ask plow guys what their preferred fluid is they run in their plows? After rebuild, my meyers was operating great; but this was milder weather. Today, 7-degrees, started working ok then nada. My assumption was some icing. I had put new blue fluid in with an oz of alcohol after rebuilding it. May have been some old (blue) oil in the pistons yet and I replaced one coupler, not the others as it looked fine. Anyway, a friend said dump the blue oil and run ATF trans fluid in it. Curious, anyone done this? Thanks.

I always run Boss fluid in mine, it's Milspec 5606 aviation hydraulic fluid but, any TRUE snowplow fluid should be thin viscosity you need. Atf will do just what your describing in cold weather.

Thanks - I took the motor off and brought it in my heated garage to thaw out a few hours and noticed it seemed low on fluid, not sure I'd guess, if I had filled it enough after rebuilding, no leaks anywhere. Put it back on and worked fine. Just what I need - a warm weather plow! Maybe I'll take my lawn mower out to clear the snow, lol.

When did you last change the fluid? If the pump is not covered and sits outside you most likely have water/condensation inside the pump. I rebuilt and resealed my Meyer unit and it sits outside all year, and every fall I change the fluid and it comes out slightly milky meaning water mixed in the fluid.

Yeah - my 3 bay heated garage is a tad short to park the plow with blade on it (plus all the crap in it and my old ride and daily drivers) - the back pole building in the woods on my in-laws property adjacent to ours is where it used to sit became a mice haven and got tired of repairing the damage and digging out mice-**** nests so said eff it, I'm parking it outside at my house. I got an old e-47 from my bro-in-law (the case cracked on the e-60 - looking around for a case so I can rebuild that one). It 'worked' but crappy so rebuilt it. The valves were pretty new on the e-60 so swapped them and the hoses as they were newer. Live & learn - my guess is I should have done a better job flushing the pistons out (I did this over a year ago thinking ok fresh enough - probably NOT) and I have a suspect coupling yet, yep should replace it. We had weather here where it was in the mid-30's snowing then temp dropped like a rock - not good for this thing sitting outdoors. All the valves and such are exposed to the elements as ya know. Anyway, I reposted after a bud told me don't use the blue oil, go to trans oil as the shop where he worked did this and never had issues with icing...thus tossed this question out. Correct! Gotta flush the unit out every year.
