I'm going to install a Cheetah shifter in 68 Charger. Currently transmission is out and engine is in. Whats better: install shifter first then trans or trans then shifter? Never installed an after market shifter. Any advise on install would be appreciated. Thanks
Frank

Either way works. You can bolt it down easier if there’s no trans in the car. Great shifter, just keep the cable off the exhaust.

Cable routing will be easier with the trans installed.

I've done it both ways a few times. With trans out, it's a little easier depending on how the actual shifter mount needs to attach to the tunnel. You also need to figure where the cable routing will go.

I just did mine, it was kind of tight drilling the hole and routing the cable with the trans in, but either way can be done.

Thanks all. Tomorrow I'll remove the factory console and install the shifter, then the trans. Appreciate your input.
