Hey, is ~$50 for a trunk lid light setup (bracket, socket, wire) for a ‘71 Charger a reasonable cost?

Depends.

Look around on intardwebs and see if you can find any other examples for sale, or see if any had sold and for how much.

Also, if originality isn't a huge concern, see what a universal kit runs.

I'd say that's a little high, but not an insane price

Reasonable considering they're difficult to find. My 2 cents.

If a $50 part you need for your car is an issue, you're in the wrong hobby! :poke::lol:

the problem is being accomplished by the CHARGER name on the listing... if a 71/74 CORONET trunk lid light was available maybe you would pay $5 for the same piece

Nacho's post got me thinking. That lamp doesn't require a switch, it's mercury or something ... but in any case it is the same lamp for all B and C body cars. (different for A & E body).
So search Satellite, Coronet, Monaco, Fury, Polara, Newport, New Yorker etc.
Prolly find one cheaper.
On another note a fellow over at 71-74 Charger.com posted this a few days ago.
He said: "I work at NPD (National Parts Depot) selling parts and while we don't have a lot of Mopar parts we do have some. The company bought out a small Mopar warehouse in Florida and they're liquidating the parts. The best way to see what we have is to go on the website, click the Mopar category and search for parts. If you see something click on the pic to see if it's in stock. If we have it i can get it shipped anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. Call me (ask for Ferg) at the Michigan warehouse. Direct line 734-397-4569.
We also have tools and other handy garage items."

Wonder if they bought out Silke's in Jacksonville???

And guess what? Searching for Chrysler light is even cheaper ( didn't know C bodies where the same if Bob didn't say it so proceed on search ) Althought a bit diff on the socket. It could be just a diff on manufacturer at the time for the Chrysler plant.

So is just about the applications seller knowledge will raise the price or not LOL. When I found my NOS rear speaker maybe 15 years ago got it on $20, while some vendors were selling the same on $150, what iT was the difference? $150 did know it was valid for E bodies, while the $20 seller listed it for trucks dash speaker... same PN for both

And I bet searching for tilt switch or mercury switch for trunk or luggage or cargo area without any specific brand will find a similar if not the same setup on a cheaper price on regular parts stores ( not on line ). Many cars used the same. Right now found somebody on eBay selling one for Mustang which looks the same piece, but on 50 rate too. The only important diff I found was the terminal used for the harness, which can be changed. Socket is a bit diff too but bracket is the same shape.
