Build Thread- 64 Fury Convertible

Just curious, how is the inner cowl on your car? I had to do a bit of ‘surgery’ on my 64 Dodge and fortunately I was able to pickup a NOS top cowl from a member here.

I have a hole in the outer cowl....I'm waiting for the patch panel to come in before we cut it open... We're working on the back of car now, then floors, and then cowl.....I stil;l have to remove windshield and trim up there, as well as the wiper arm assembly etc etc....

We got the outer quarter patch cut, and set in place, made a pattern with welding rod to follow the contour of the new patch so we can fab up an inner piece like its supposed to be with a double wall, and double wall on the flange area.

Thats a nice helmet you have. Is it auto dim?. I'm fortunate on my car as there is no rust in the cowl areas top or side. Looking good.

Yeah, My Buddy Terry....Using the squint method for tacks......I actually Bought him a new helmet this past Fall to use on my car when his wasn't working.... It works great, but he tacks things all the time without it.... SMH

I have too much money invested in my eyes to go commando. I never weld without my jacket and gloves. Don't need the free tan session leading to skin cancer later.

More progress tonight... We got the bottom of the inner wheel well fabricated, and welded in. We made the inner lip from a piece we cut off Terry’s old 62...and he fabbed the rest Also welded in the new trunk drop down as well. Once I get that area totally cleaned , I’ll body caulk seams and seam seal, etch prime it and coat with rust protectant. Then we can finish the Outer lower quarter !! All this looks great considering before....there was NOTHING there...We also found a mystery hole in the front of the rear fenderwell ...anybody know if that was factory....it had some Dum Dum pushed in it....???

We just keep plugging along...We got the Garage furnace working again once the part came in. Now, back to business....it was too cold the past couple of days to spray any coatings and my feet were freezing when the Garage was 42 degrees !! Now it’s a toasty 66 !! Etch primed and coated everything with Black Rust prevention, even though this will all be hidden.... I’m coating everything inside and out !!! We Got the outer lower quarter started stitching it in... It lined up great with the inner wheelhouse we built from scratch !! The Bugs are our official Mascots !! I think they both Froze....

A hot tub works great, as I've learned, for frozen feet. Hop in there, make some human soup and all is good. Seems like you don't get warmed up enough in a shower when you get that cold. Glad you got the heat issue fixed!

Good Suggestion !! We had to drain the Hot tub a couple of weeks back, repair a leak...I shocked the new water after refilling.... Just gotta put the other citrus stuff in and I can be back to soaking at night !!

We hopped in last night. Low 40's around 11 after 3+ days of heavy rain. Felt soooooo good! Warmed up the bodies quick.

More progress on the 64 !!
Didnt have my camera for a couple of days so i missed some stuff but heres where we are.
Got the 69 Charger rear end housing tore down, Housing sanded down, cleaned up (No pics) & Rust treated & painted with Satin Black frame paint... Terry finished the lower quarter patch dressing the welds, Taking care of the pinholes I created After I needle scaled all the old undercoating after seeing rust around inside the quarter at the Moulding bolt holes..(Thin spots became holes ). Got them all welded and made sure everything is solid and no thin spots.... I got everything cleaned up on the inside and Etch primed, and Rust protectant applied to inner quarter and all inside the new drop down, and where the outer and inner lower quarter were spot welded to match factory welds.... The Rocker and Quarter are all done !!!! We metal prepped it and gave it a good coating of Ospho since it will be bare metal for a while longer... Now were going to take the car off the lift, put it on the other side of shop, on jack stands on one side, and start the Pass side Rocker.... It has been hit over there at some point. were not sure if were going to have to pull it any on the frame machine yet or not......

Best way to do it. Use something thats already available.

donor parts rock......... dont use too many, you will be accused of a rebody LMAO

Cut the section of quarter i need,Got the quarter panel spot welds drilled out where the quarter lip meets the outer wheelhouse lip and seperated the two pieces... Cleaned up the inside, and got the inside etch primed. I will paint with rust protectant on the insides of both pieces before putting them in... Also, started cutting out the bad coming up with a plan for where to cut it in the good... Couple of patches will be needed but pretty solid !!

Since any project consist of The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly ... today, we had some of each... I got my fender and inner fender pieces back from media blasting and they were GOOD, Took them to The Body shop for etch priming... Also got my inner fender well pieces primed and painted on the inside... more Good... Now the Bad and the Ugly... we started assessing the Passenger side rocker panel.... it’s bad !! It took a heck of a t-Bone collision at some point... the door is replaced but Quarter is damaged as well as rocker is pushed in about an inch.... once we really started looking, we saw previous repairs and removed the door sill area of rocker, and peeled back the crappy floor pan hack job they had done with flat Steel, and saw the Ugly.... Rocker is going to take major repair and pulling & Straightening, and original Holy floors are still under the crappy patch.....the first pic is AFTER Terry beat the inner rocker out a ton.... and it’s still bent in ...I knew most of this from looking under the car when i got it, so its not really a surpise except the fact that the rocker had a previous repair that wasnt done properly......they cut two slits in the inner Rocker and the upper door sill area and strecthed the door sill part back out and then mudded over it.....There was a ton of Mud in quarter to bring body back out to door......we'll have to pull the quarter out as well....I'm not a fan of using 1/4" bondo to fix dents and collision damage......Taking a break from this car tomorrow...

Took a few days off..Put a Power Steering seal, New/old Overflow Bottle and changed the Oil in The "Wander Wagon" Parts chaser while the lift was free, We also put a dream beam lowering Kit on Terry's F150..Back at it today on the 64 !! Moved the car out of the Garage since the sun was out for the first time in a year(it seems like)....Swept up the Garage,Moved the 64 back onto the lift side...did some inner fender painting, and the Inner splash shields,as well as a "Project" air cleaner got blasted and Etch Primed....
