I saved those pictures a while ago. I’m not sure where exactly where I borrowed them from.

I think MCR is gone, TEN publishing killed almost 20 of their magazines awhile back.

Covers came in on Monday and had them soaking in hot soapy water to clean out the insides and such all week long.

Was out this am while the sun was out, was about 52. Tomorrow is going to be heavy wind & rain, so had to get outside to keep the mess outside. Stripped off the paint and cleaned up the insides. One side had the red lead primer while the other side did not. Cleaned up the rails as well. Was some gasket sealer on them.

Hoping to get them primered and painted this weekend. Also my NOS PCV valve came in. Now just waiting on my PCV grommet & valve cover bolts to arrive from BRE.

Looking forward to the hardware you get for this as I'm not happy with the hex cap bolts on my covers.
 
The grommet & mounting bolts arrived from BRE today, so got everything primered. Now just to let everything cure & wait for a warm day so I can put the color on.

Well decided that I'd shoot the covers today as the temp was 43 out. Overall came out nice, some slight drips, runs to make them look like the factory. What's surprising is that with all of the cleaning I did as well as the primer I still got some fish eyes. Gonna leave everything to dry for a few days & then will hand brush over them to fill them in. Once those are all dry then I'll hit with a final coat.

Got up into the lower 50's today and was bright and sunny with a slight breeze so decided I would switch out my valve covers.

One thing I learned today is that it's easier to affix the gasket to the valve cover and then bolt onto the head rather than trying to wiggle the tabs into the notches when the gasket is on the head, only snapped 1 off.

Finger tightened in a star pattern until I felt it was tight enough. Once both were on I warmed the car up tightened a bit more & then went for a drive. No leaks, whoo hoo! Once I got back home I tightened them up a bit more. Was a successful day to say the least!

Looks great Roger, great work keep it up. Now to paint that firewall red, yeah we always seal the gasket on the valve cover then put it on the engine. I see you have headers, are you going to change those out or keep them?
 
Hey Eric, good to hear from you! Yea, I gotta figure something out about that but not sure yet how to do it. As far as the headers, I don't have any plans on that as that's not a cheap switchover, lol.

Busy 6hrs today, was about 35 but with the wind chill was about 23 but nice and sunny.

Started with the carb fuel line. Was a bit of a bitch to get it around the alternator seeing mine is not an OEM and it's bigger but was able to get everything in place. Then had to adjust the lower line from the pump to the filter to get it to align with the top line.

Once that was done I rinsed the engine bay down to get rid of the spilled gas. That was a mistake as I wasn't able to tell if I was leaking any gas when I stared her up. Used my leaf blower to blow the water away & had a slight gas leak at the brass fitting on the carb as well as the lower line from the pump to the filter. I hadn't tightened the bolts tight enough as I didn't want to overtighten. Tightened them up a bit more & problems solved.

Washed the engine bay down to clean up the spilled gas and then went for a drive to make sure everything was ok. Brought a fire extinguisher with me just in case.

Once I was home installed the PCV to Carb line then put the coil back on the manifold like it's supposed to be, as it's been mounted on the quarter panel.

One of my next projects is to figure out how to fill in the holes where previous owners had drilled to attach the coil. Was thinking of using liquid steel putty, what do you guys think?

Spring time job for you. Flatten out those holes and solder them shut. Then a little paint.:thumbsup:
