1966 Coronet 440, QQ1 Met. Red 383 4-speed Coming Back From the Dead

Cool car before they "hot rodded" it. It probably seems fast and scary as hell with that rake. And the fender well headers...it's not a 55 Chevy.

The seats look nice!

I agree, although for a race car it could have been chopped much worse.

The scariest thing for me is the de-chroming which begs the question- if the trim holes are filled in, how much more work was done?

Agreed, that's a lot of big holes spanning the better part of 17'.

Does this maroon car have 11” drum brakes all around? These are neat cars.

I had an oddball: 67 Charger 383-2, console 4 speed, 323 SG manual steering and brakes. Had fender tag and certicard. For the little money I got out of it I should have kept it.

QQ1 is "metallic red" in 66. It's an interesting color that begs further study on my part.

I had a customer in K Falls with a '66 Charger optioned with a 361-2/4-speed. It was a nice road car and actually wasn't horrible in the mpg department. Sounds like the 67 was a neat car.

On the brakes I am unsure. I'll report back on that once we get it up in the air and pull the wheels off.

I'd love to have the info for the database I'm building.

There's another one on ebay right now.

Just got those pics and VIN and added that one.

I'm now up to six that I have VINs for and a few more that I don't.

I will get you the info from my old car and the this one when I get some free time in the office.

Awesome.

We have been very busy at work due to the storm so not much in the way of progress. I am considering stabbihg a rebuit 383 long block in the car instead of fighting the unknown. I did knock all plugs out of the block to flush it. I hate the thought of my newly recored radiator getting full of crud.

The little devil on my shoulder keeps reminding me of a 470 stroker for sale semi locally that I should go check out. It's hard to resist making this one boogie like my other cars do.

I learned something new about 66 b bodies today! Apparently if a 361 or 383 was ordered in an area that required C.A.P. emissions the 26" radiator was standard. That would make sense considering my silver car was a C.A.P. equipped, non-A/C, 383 4-barrel. So there you have it, the mystery of the 26" radiator is solved.

I guess something like a towing package. I will post a scan of the build sheet and see if we can figure it out. My silver car's interior was trashed so no build sheet there either. It had a 7 blade viscous clutch fan. This car should have had one but somebody swapped it for the 22" 4 blade non clutch unit.
Hi Jeremiah...Joseph suggested I reach out to you regarding 1966 Coronet 440 parts. I am trying to install an AC unit into my true 440 1966 Convertible. I bought a nice dashboard with the AC control unit hole accommadations. Dash vents and tubes are being lined up and Joe has some parts and vacum lines to connect to the dash control unit. I live in beautiful Portland Oregon where it never rains and also have a 1967 Coronet convertible kicking around gathering rust and not sure what do do with it. Would be interested in knowing what parts you have available, AC and otherwise. Stay safe and best regards...Cornell

@Cornellius

Just an FYI- the vacuum push buttons on 70 and up A body cars (until they went to sliders) are the same.

I occasionally see those at u-pull yards.

I would have got the last one I saw, but ran out of time and could only get the actual push buttons without the control unit.

Are either of your cars "WH2xG" (or WH2xH" for 1967) 383-4 cars?

Howdy,

I dropped off a 400 block at the machine shop a few weeks ago. This thing will get a 511, 18 spline and a Dana 60. I am excited to get started with the project.

As far as A/C parts go pm me with needs. I might have some parts however work has me traveling so it could be a while.

Glad to run into another Oregon member. Maybe we will run into each other at Woodburn this summer.

Hi Jerimiah...I will put a wish list together and foeward. Yes, Woodburn would be cool. Cheers and stay safe.

Progress! New brakes, suspension, clutch, rebuilt a833 and a fresh 400 in place of the original 383.

Next step is front end alignment, exhaust and interior. At that point it will be ready for 15" wheels/tires.
