Has any one done a conversion to a power rack & pinon setup ? Also how about a tilt wheel aftermarket conversion for a 69 with the in dash ign. sw.? They used to be available but they now all seem to be obsolete by the manufactures. i been out of the game for a few years but getting back in now. Thanks

I can certainly understand the appeal of a tilt steering column but Why are you interested in the rack and pinion?
Have you driven a car with a tight steering box and fresh suspension? The only aftermarket rack and pinion setup that fits a Mopar has some serious drawbacks. Unisteer....
Larger turning radius, increased bumpsteer, durability concerns!

If you have a good rebuilt front suspension (I prefer poly vs rubber) a tight steering box, no slop in the steering coupler, power steering pump pressure turned down for some road feel and a good alignment its pretty tuff to beat system unless your doing some sort of extreme driving or road course racing then maybe entertain a rack and pinion system.

Flaming river has tilt columns, heres a link.

All the column conversions I see use a glorified GM column that was well known for the two screws falling out in the inside causing you to have to hold the wheel while turning, you can take the wheel and make it flop all over..very poor design Ididit is who sells them now... I’m not sure if the design is the same but from looking at the outside of collars where the tilt levers are it looks the same. I don’t know if the aftermarket columns also have the stiff collapsible mesh at the bottom like my 70 & 72 do but the idea is the column would collapse and the shaft wouldn’t impale you. So check that part too,idk so be careful I know not many Mopars had tilt.

Ya my car has fresh everything in the front end, tubilar arms, fresh box etc. I drove my friends 70 challenger with a power rack and liked the way it drove thats all. I have been doing this for a long time and want to try something different. Its like why do i need a new 512cid for a street car, because i want one. Thanks. Dan

Put a firm feel stage 3 in it and not mess with the column and it looks right with no funky rack and pinion. Just a idea!
