For those of you who were around when our cars were new, was there one specific example that really set your heart aflame? Were you fortunate enough to own it, either then, or later?

IMG_0101.JPG This is the dealer demonstrator I test drove new when I was 16. Have tried to buy it ever since, unsuccessfully.

When our high school had some Plymouth Troubleshooting Road Runners for our auto shop class to diagnose. Talk about getting hooked!!

Pretty much all of them, it was different then. We anticipated new car introductions in the fall and each year was better than the last. Yes, I've had them all except I haven't had a 64 Sport Fury yet. Notables include 67 GTX, 69 GTX, 69 Road Runner, 70 E-bodies, 71 Challengers and of course 71 B-bodies. Each was my favorite in the year they were introduced.

I was just old enough to catch the last couple years of the ‘era’ after getting my license. I was envious of my older brother before I could drive (legally-lol) with his GTO’s and his buddies that would come over with their girlfriends in their Chevelle’s, Camaro’s, B-body BB’s, etc. sitting in our driveway then burn a little rubber heading out. All were their daily driver’s. I remember the intro of the ‘Rapid Transit System’ and would see these cars in their wild colors gleaming under the street lights in town or at the drive-in’s. My 1st Mopar was a ’70 Cuda vert and it was a blast cruising through town, going to the drive-in’s, outdoor theaters, and occasionally out to our country highways after dark for racing. Some of them were big events, planned among the circle of car people and their friends. These drag races would get a crowd. My brother had a wicked-fast ’69 Ram Air IV GTO (non-Judge) that had a ‘reputation’. One night sitting at one of our go to spots in a shopping mall parking lot, after it was closed, a guy drove up to our group, from da city (we were in a town nearby). He had one hell of a built up wagon, loud. He cut the engine then asked if we knew of a guy with a red GTO…tell him I wanna run him not for free. My brother won a bunch of races…but a Hemi from da city clocked him. Some of these guys bet appreciable money.

Sadly the time was dying: Our drive-in’s closed up, as did one of our outdoor theaters, then later the 2nd one. In the mix was a cruising ban in town and the rent-a-police at our McDonald’s would kick our butts out if we hung there for longer than 15 minutes. Used to be we would back our rides in and shoot the chit – then signs posted ‘Forward Parking Only – 15 minute limit’. Well the population in our town exploded anyway as more people moved in…you could no longer get thru town on a Friday night without bumper-to-bumper traffic jams. The ban was no more than twice in an hour, lol. With the traffic ya couldn’t do it anyway. Was great era while it lasted.

When Dodge introduced their new Superbee part way through 1968, most of the car magazines ran an advertisement showing the new 'Bee in Sunfire Yellow with a black Bumble Bee stripe. I though that picture was hotter than a Raquel Welch poster! The car was beautiful. Fast forward about a year, and I am driving past the local Chrysler after work to deposit my pay check. They were just backing a new 1969 Superbee off the car transporter; yellow with black stripes. I turned around and went in to look at it. After about 2 hours of intense negotiations, I bought it. This was a Friday late afternoon. The car had not yet been PDI'd, so I could not even take it for a drive. I had to wait to pick it up after work on Monday. That was a very long weekend.

My Dad's co-worker and pal bought a new F5 69 Charger with black interior and black top brand new when I was 5. I thought is was the coolest looking car ever and was always so excited to get a chance to ride in it. Ten years later i bought it from the second owner (who had trashed it) as my first car. I paid the princely sum of $150 in paper-route money, plus the cost of a timing chain and gaskets to get it running.

I still get think an F5+black 69 Charger with the 5-spoke hubcaps is about as cool as it gets.

One of my dad's employee's bought one of these new. I was 9 then. I though it was the greatest car ever. 340 4 speed and RED! Never did own one though.

She was hotter than a two dollar pistol,
She was the fastest thing around...

My parents bought this new in 1970,I was 6 years old. My older sister married a guy that had a 70 Challenger R/T 440 Sixpack car. Those cars got my Mopar blood running!

70 Challenger R/T was my favorite from fall 69, shared with the 70 Hemi Cuda of course. I bought the R/T in 1979 (little did I know how rare the FM3 was). Bought the Hemicuda in 1990 I think. HemiCuda was a mess and it ended up being so much more than just dropping my Hemi into the empty engine bay like what I was hoping for.

Then: With the 70 favorites done, I proceeded to my favorite 71's, which switched back to B-bodies. I got over the top lucky when an acquantance wanted to trade a 71 Hemi Charger for my overly repaired with cheap panels Hemi Cuda. Then later I bought a 383-4 speed 71 Runner and converted it to my dream 440+6 Runner (I never could choose a favorite between te 71 Runner or 71 R/T.
I first seen the Hemi Charger at a local used car lot around 1973 or 1974, all I could do was dream at that point, it was unreal being lucky enough to own it 25 or so years later with it's original engine, trans etc. all intact.

I had a car that looked exactly like this. Bought it in '71 as a rebuilder. Loved that car but had to sell cuz I got married. Dumb. For selling and for getting married.

Long and lean every young man’s dream,
She turned every head in town!

You beat me to it!

I didn’t have it when it was new but it was my first car, first Mopar and first love. Now 35 years later I have another ‘73 RR.

I even waited thinking someone would have done it based on the thread title.

Simple....Dads 6bbl Super TrakPak convertible, everybody that ever saw this car fell in love with it. It was one badass ride, and was one hot pepper. Probably the best of the best, straight off the delivery truck it ran 12:30 at 108. It was truly one of a kind, still loved in our hearts to this day!
