1970 St Louis car.

Your number is wrong - it should read something like - 0G16_660 - I think the missing digit is a '4'
The '196' you can see refers to the assembly details, and there is a missing digit there also.

Thanks Kiwi, I looked on Brewers site and did some comparing. The input shaft is 18 spline, cluster gear has 2 rings and the speed gears have no rings. Guy I got it from said it came out of a 70s 340 Chally. So it seems to be a 2.65 first gear. Without a clear VIN stamp is there anyway to tell what this came from?

18 is a hd 440 or hemi input shaft , two mounts are 70 up . but these gear boxes have been around since 64 . who knows what combo of gears and case it is . are you selling it ?

Just trying to get more info to what I have. Also got a bell housing and the guy I got it from is looking for a shifter. Selling Maybe?

0G = 1970 St Louis Plant which is B-bodies only.

Not really, but you could guess at an E Body car if the front shifter mounting points have never been used.
Anyone saying the type of car would be just guessing.

Definitely a 1970 St Louis car - 0 = 1970, G = St Louis

@69Coronetrt may have a list which narrows down the style of cars from that factory.

Well the guy said it came out of a 340 E body but it has a 70 BB bell. Maybe I will just build a car around it. Or put it in the duster or?

Well....you have a few options. If the owner of the matching car doesn't show up....you still have a great trans.

Maybe it's just me but that third number in the sequence looks like a partial 4 OG 164660.

Not really seeing a 4 maybe a 1. Are the last #s part of the VIN? The last 3 sure look double stamped. Early Monday or late Friday or hungover.

I can tell you that whoever stamped it did a poor job of it. This is what it should look like:
B280166 = Hamtramck car number 280166
PP = New Process Gear Division
833 = A833 4-speed
2702 = Build date (20 Dec 68)
0472 = Number of this unit built on 20 Dec 68 (starts at 0001)

Jamie Passon has a very good book about the A833 and it has a section about identifying transmission styles, castings and compatible parts etc.
