getting ready to change transmission gasket and fluid. and looking over an old invoice i find out that the shop [no longer in business] put type f in my tranny so i wonder what fluid would work in topping off the transmission, atf-4 or maybe b-m trick shift

Type F is an old ford spec is but it works well in a 727.
I've been using ATF4 right from the Mopar dealer lately its really not that expensive.
Either one should be fine.

when I went to transmission class at mo-tech on schoener and 8-mile, before they closed the teacher used type f, he stated it had more friction additives that gave the clutch plates a little more bite to keep them from slipping. that was 1986. old school tricks.

My B&M transkit way back in the day recommended their own Trick Shift, of course, but said type F was the next choice.

I've been using Type F in my Torqueflights for 45 years, Never had a transmission failure yet.

I built all my own 727 bracket race trans for 20+ years. I tried both the Type F & Dex, settled on F. Today my Cope 727's use a Mercon style. I'd use a Mercon style, synthetic or mineral?

I will have to say I agree with Don.In 1973 I went to a Direct Connection seminar.
The Mopar engineer put it this way,"Dextron was developed for the guy in the suit driving his Chrysler Imperial to work and not wanting to spill his coffee when the car shifts." "Use type F." It has stuck with me all these years.

I've used every fluid known in my transmissions. Never seem any difference.

I used several kinds too never could really tell much difference either, don't think it really matters. I use a synthetic mercon in my charger works just fine figured I'd try an overpriced synthetic to see what it looks like after some miles and abuse.
