My windshield wipers worked perfectly fine a week ago. Then I replaced the timing chain and water pump. I'm unsure what I could have bumped along the way to mess up the windshield wipers, or if it is just a coincidence that this happened at the same time... But I want to try and troubleshoot as much as possible before just buying a new unit as they are quite expensive.

This is the issue.

Most of the time, if I turn the switch on, the wipers will go up and then get stuck about 1/8th of the way back down to home position. I will have to turn the switch off in order to return them to home fully. So, if I ride the on/off switch with good timing, the blades will technically operate as normal, lol. Variable speed IS WORKING, but still gets stuck in same manner. Sometimes they will get hard stuck and the switch will not do anything. In that case, if I move the wipers by hand, they will activate and work in the explained manner.

No idea what the hell is going on... Does anybody have any ideas? From small to large... Again, they worked perfectly fine before I replaced my chain and pump... I have a hard time believing this is a coincidence but I cannot for the life of me figure out what I did... Everything else works electrically.

Unrelated to what you worked on. I would start by looking WAY up under the dash at the plastic pivots & clips and such on the wiper arm mechanism. My first guess is some plastic piece wore out.

Do I need to remove dash for this..?

I will check... but likelihood of something under dash breaking at the exact same timeframe that I pull the engine to replace timing chain and water pump... I'm not liking those odds lol.

no and that happens all the time on these cars, work on one thing and something else acts up

Turning the switch on to bring wipers up, then off to bring them down will mimic normal operation with good timing.

Speaking of wiper motors. Mine will park in the up position yet variable speed works. 66 Belvedere that I totally disassemble and re-assembled. Only big issue I have . Any ideas please
