Over priced rebuild ?

Many posts back I said a Chevy 350 for $3000. It's a brand new engine, not rebored, crank under cut etc. and its all assembled. It may not be the fastest but it should last 100,000 miles. I'd still rather have a Mopar under my hood.

Then $280 for him to go through my TF240s including the cost of springs, keepers, retainers. He ended up decking the heads and touched up the valve seats.

Is this a typo ? $280 bucks to:

* Dis- Assemble TF240 Heads
* Setup and Surface TF240 Heads (2)
* Touch up TF240 Valve Seats / Lap/Check Contacts
* Mic Valves and check V/Guide Clrc on TF 240's
* Wash TF240's thoroughly for Assembly
* Mic/Check V/Spring Installed Heights after "touching up" V/Seats
* Check 16 V/Springs for correct Pressure at Installed Height
* Lube Guides, and re-Assemble TF240's setting/Adjusting V/Spring Pressures from above.
Plus the Parts cost ?

* New Valve Springs
* New 10* Moly Valve Retainers
* New 10* Valve Locks

Just say'in..... hard to even BUY the Parts for just the $280 Bucks ??????????????????????????

Must be really cheap to get work done in LA huh ?

At the shops I’ve previously worked at, and at my shop...... the price is the price.
It doesn’t get cheaper by waiting longer.

I'm just saying, that is "the saying."
Supposedly they charge more for a rush job? IDK.

I call a machine shop today! The guy on the phone said he would do a complete rebuild heads and all which would go back stock accept a cam 5500$ In my eyes I find that highly over priced!! What are you thoughts? Love to hear responds!
Sounds about right to me and most likely at the lower end of the scale. Hey If ya wanna play ya gotta pay. This is an expensive hobby, Especially if you can't do a lot of the work yourself. Motor work generally falls into that category :-(

I can get a 2013 5.7 hemi for 2800 with 44k miles! For the 5500$ I can do a Engine swap!!
Apples and Oranges and after a while plan on spending big bucks on the Hemi when it eats itself. And they all do !!!

$5k for B/RB rebuild, What mods to Polara will be required to drop that HEMI , computer w tranny into the car? Do cost analysis side by side on paper. Spend $5k on the "rebuild it, drop it in and go" will be cheaper and MAYBE have few bucks left to p-n-p an EFI into it.
