493 stroker question

Best combo for a 440 block is a 505 which consists of a 4.250 stroke crank with 2.200 rod journals, 7.100 long Chevy rods and then matching pistons with the correct compression ratio for your use. To figure out the compression ratio you'll need to know which cylinder heads you'll be using. You may or may not be able to find a kit that fits the bill since it will depend on which cylinder heads you plan to use. For this project to come out correctly you need to work with someone who knows what they are doing. I'd highly recommend you find a good machine shop in your local area and work with them. Asking the internet to help you build an engine is about as good of an idea as asking the internet to help you perform surgery.
I'm looking for as much useful input as I can get. Asking here is good because no one is trying to sell me anything. Not so much with parts suppliers, and machine shop. Andy I read your book, and I get most of what you said, but some things have changed since you wrote it, like TFS heads, availability of different stroker kits, etc.
Basically, due to the suggestions here, I plan on using the 505 kit, TFS 240 heads, hyd roller{TFS}https://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-61602003, Probably a larger set of header{I have 1 3/4 now}, Eddy rpm intake, 750 race demon, MSD complete setup{I have these already} This is a 90% street car. Any input you can share would be invaluable to me. Thanks.

A 505 with TF240 heads and the TF hyd roller cam will be a stout combination. The RPM intake will choke it a bit as will the 750 carb. Okay to choke it down for a street car but if you plan on racing it then I'd use a TF intake and a bigger carb or a Holley Sniper setup.
The 1.75 headers will work fine for a street car. I wouldn't go bigger unless you have a lot of room or unless you are racing the car.

Thanks. This is going in my 64 Sport Fury. I can see what my finances are after I get the main things done. Then I can consider the manifold, carb/efi, and headers. Thanks again. Very helpful.

Not a ton of choices for headers in an early B body car so if you have a set that fits nice you might just stay with them. I use 1 3/4 headers on my Duster and it makes right at 600 hp. Seems to work fine. Big headers are not required on a street car regardless of what some people will tell you. On a dedicated race car you need the proper tube size to make max power but on a street car with full exhaust it doesn't matter that much if the tubes are slightly smaller than ideal.
