Will 10" x 2 1/2" rear brake drum with 2 1/2" shoes fit on 1966 Satellite. Comes stock with 10" x 1 3/4" drum and shoes. These were given to me. The drum seems to fit ok.

U will need to change the backing plates on the rear end to match ur brakes and drums. Kim
What is the deference between the two. I thought it would just be the width. Just asking...don't know.
I purchased the brake hardware kit and it came with different length pins for the springs that keep the shoes in place?

The backing plates are specific to the diameter and width of the shoes. The top center pin length is the difference for width in the backing plates. Just like the length of the hold down pins, but you can easily swap them.

You cannot use any 10” backing plate.

Thought the difference was axle face to where the 6 spots where the shoes seat. The pin as 413 could be different?

That makes complete sense. thx.

Don't know if I'm reading your answer right?
If you laid a BP on a flat surface shoe side up. Then measure through the axle hole to flat surface a 2" brake BP would be the same as a 2.5"BP? I thought the 2.5" BP would be a 1/2" taller.

It would depend, they could make the pin stick out further, or the could change the depth of the plate where the shoes contact the plat. Like the offset on a wheel. So I’m not sure what they changed to make it happen.

Either way if you put the wrong with shoes on a backing plate the shoes will not line up with the top center mounting pin

I have a pair of 67 Belvedere 10 X 2.5 backing plates off the car I can measure and photo.

MO the BP has to have more offset to the inside because the face of the axle is always the same.

10" x 1 3/4" Rear Brake Shoes in the "B" body world
Was Utilized on a factory SIX (6) cylinder....
Very Very different Brake Drum from the "A" body....
5 x 4 1/2 big bolt pattern vs 5 x 4 small bolt pattern,
Very different height.

That would be the 8 1/4" rears then?

I do have 10" BP with 1 3/4" shoes. Fits top center pin perfect. Question...can 2 1/2" drum work with this. Installed the 10"x 2 1/2" drum and it fits over the outside of the BP with no rubbing. 1966 Satellite.
Checked my 1969 Formula S Barracuda 8 3/4 rear axle with 10" x 1 3/4" drum...which sets with the drum lip inside the BP.

Try putting a 1-3/4 BP on a rear diff with an axle in it then try to put the drum on bet wheel studs will only stick out a 1/4" to 1/2".
