Just finishing converting to power steering on my 71 Runner with 440. I need a belt, does anyone know off hand either the size I need or the Gates XL belt no.
Many thanks
Since you are adding p/s on, this may help so you get what you need with out sending back wrong size units. Get a 5' piece of 3/8" rope. Start at one end and wind the rope around the pulleys until the rope meets the end you are holding down, with the p/s bracket about halfway in its adjustment. Mark the rope where it meets. Pull it out and measure your length. Gates has a very easy numbering system. 7 series belt is 3/8", 8 series is 7/16", 9 series is 1/2". So if you measurement is 36", it will be a 7360 belt. 37.5 would be a 7375. You can generally find exactly what you need but they may have one not exact but close. Sometimes their number might end with other than 5 or 0. So that means either less than 1/2" or just over. Mopar primarily uses 3/8" belts on most applications. If you have an old belt around you can verify its 3/8 by setting it in the groove. It should be just flush. If its down inside like 1/16" to 1/8" then you need the wider belt.
Ah good to know the numbering sequence. I don't have my pump mounted yet as I'm waiting for the powdercoating guy to reopen because of the Covid lockdown were in right know. I was just trying to get ahead where I could. Rock Auto says it was a 42.5" in belt so I ordered what they suggested.
