I have a 1978 A727. Several months ago I replaced the NSS as it was leaking and I replaced it with the long pin style (had short in it). I just recently noticed by reverse lights don’t work. All wires are new. I took the plug off at the trans switch, put 12v on the backup light socket and they work. I also have 12v at the switch when in reverse.

Either the switch is bad from the factory or was there a spring or something in the hole that I missed?
thanks for any input.

Neutral Safety Switch. Nothing in the hole other than the switch.
It is activated by the rooster comb of the valve body.
Yes they have a long and short version dependent on year. You have to use the correct one for the year of the valve body.
And I'm in the same boat. 73 727, 73 valve body, New 73 NSS. My lights don't work either. Jumper the plug and on they come.
Haven't got around to fixing them yet.The one I got from the parts store may be wrong.

Is there 2 gaskets, old one stuck and new on top? A easy just in case you missed it. Doubt it.

There are three different rooster combs that can be in the transmission. You have to figure out which one it is to match the switch to it. Unfortunately I went through this.
