I see smoke coming coming up from between instrument cluster and dash pad
Looks like steam no burning smell but it is only coming up when car is running
Not when ignition switch is on
Just when car engine is running
I’m going to pull front bucket seat soon and look under dash
Any thoughts are appreciative as this car is trying my patience
Thanks

If its steam is it coming from the defroster vent? If so I would think heater core.

Windshield oily?
Sweet smell?
Maybe heater core?

What's the ammeter doing?

Windows fogging up, or the bottom of the front window have water droplets, or passenger side floor wet? Heater core leaking for sure if you see that.

is the smoke constant or dissipates? Could it be when car is park/stored, condensation builds up and the heat is making the smoke or steam?

Can you be more specific on where, sounds like your saying it's coming from the instrument panel not the vent correct? Heater core is the first guess if your not smelling smoke but in that area that should be unlikely. If it's doing it before the engine has time to warm up my guess is it's electrical but typically electrical smoke is quite strong... How's your sniffer? At any rate I'd leave the battery unhooked until you find it.

Thank you all very much
I disconnected alternator and than reconnected, charging ok....My mind went immediately to electrical, the thing was I know burning electrical smell and this wasnt that, I hope anyway.... It came from right between the instrument cluster and the dash pad, right about were the. speedo says zero.
If I wasnt sitting in car I wouldn't have noticed it
I thought electrical as I just changed the instrument cluster circuit board and used all new bulbs and sockets
I thought pinched wire
The alternator is bypassed, nice and tight connections so thats not a concern. I also considered a ignition switch issue
Either way its not doing it now and I had the car running awhile
Could somehow it be a condensation issue, the heater core is new but who knows with the junk sold today, I also didn't smell anti freeze
The battery is disconnected as always and I will let the car get cold and check things out later
Thanks again to all who got back to me so fast

Is your IVR old style mechanical or newer electronic? Are the gauges working?

Hows the 'Rona situation?

Are you parked anywhere near a Subway vent?

Have an extinguisher with you just incase. Enjoy

Switches on the Belvedere line have been known to hit their terminals on the dash frame cutouts.

Sounds like you have the bases covered, but in my experience electrical problems don't go away on their own. I would pull the cluster, stick my head under the dash area with a bright light, and look for burn or shorted circuits. I'd also check for any shorts to ground.

my dimmer switch did a similar thing once. not sure if it was just dust that burned off didn't smell like electrical but dash lights didnt work after that ended up rebuilding it.

It's the strangest thing and it hasn't happened since but im going to pull the front drivers bucket seat and get a good look under the dash
