I’m going to replace my mechanical voltage regulator with an electronic voltage regulator on my 1962 Plymouth savoy (318 CI if that matters.) Which model/part number should I buy?

Thanks Threewood, I just ordered one. Do you separately ground the housing? I’ve always done that on my mechanical voltage regulators just to be sure.

Good idea.

I use a bolt with the teeth on back to dig in but a separate ground is a good idea.

Thanks guys I’ll let you know how it all works out

Honestly I've been just running whatever the parts store has in stock and fortunately have had no issues at all.

I typically do the same but I have concluded That the voltage regulator is the most likely culprit so thought I’d try the electronic version. I hope it works. I hate wiring problems !

I've gotten into big arguments over these little black boxes, I hate them! I've had nothing but problems with 4 of those before I said screw it and upgraded to the modern 1970+ voltage regs.
Of course people throw the hate back me and saying I'm wrong, but I don't care!!! Hope for the best, expect the worst if you go that route! Good Luck

Good news all, my electronic voltage regulator arrive, put it in today and I completely solved my fluctuating ammeter and flickering headlights! The electronic regulator replaced my second “new“ mechanical regulator which was a disaster from the factory, it’s points burnt and locked in the charge position frying the main wire from the alternator to the ammeter. Replace the wire, installed the electronic regulator and all is good. Along the way I disconnected and cleaned all of the firewall connectors I’m I’m ready to go. Thank you so much for your help!

Threewood, I used the one that you recommended from the guy on eBay. It’s the best $16 I ever spent on the car. Thanks again!

Glad to help. I've got one in each car and have not had a single issue.
