Yep bolting all the stuff on now. The motor shop say's it is 9 to 8.1 on compression and should do 400 HP depending on the carb I run on it. I said a 650 Holley and that is what he figured in. Will see. So here is the old 383 all done up from bottom to top. Oh It is bored 20 over stock. Put dome piston's in to give it a little more compression. Comp cam close to the purple cam. Did not put roller rocker's in. Stayed with stock rockers. New connecting rod's. Crank 10 over on all bearings and connecting rod's. Should be a strong motor.

Is that an old fuel pump?
Might want to get a new one.
At 9.8 you'll have to listen for predetonation as it gets some carbon in it.
Keep us posted.

I hooked up my best friend with a 70 Roadrunner for sale, 383, N96, 4 speed, back around 1979. He put 3.90 gears in the 8¾ and also had run 4.30 gears at one time too. Purple Stripe cam (street hemi grind IIRC) aluminum intake, 4bbl (750?CFM) headers...Simple, "shadetree" mechanic stuff. It was a consistent car on the street in the low 13 seconds range. Good times, great engine.

cool. how about set of headers?
Those are HP exhaust manifolds by the looks. If so, they are good for engines up to about 500 whp and way over 500 wtq. They'll keep engine bay cooler n quieter but the exhaust out the back will have a beautiful Bass to it.

For cast iron factory manifolds, they're "not bad" but also "not great" say compared to the Max Wedge long cast manifolds. The 340 cast exhaust mannys, with the upswept driver's side, were pretty good. Cast 426 hemi exhausts and even the cast iron Ram Air II exhaust manifolds on my wife's GTO 421 TriPower...the RA2 mannys are still on her car and the divisions between the exhaust "runners" are visible, so even with all of the HP performance mods I've done to the 421 we kept the iron manifolds.
STILL...
Headers would definitely help that 383 breathe, and I say in a significant manner.
Then there's always this sweet sweet symphony that only headers and cutouts can provide:

It is a new fuel pump it was put on the motor to get it started and drive in the garage. Then taken off and put away till now. I like the stock manifolds. They will do every thing I want. Headers are a pain to me and run really hot under the hood. Besides this is not a race car just a little extra in the motor. Thanks for all the information and is always appreciated to here from you guy's and thought. Yes will let you know as it get's fired up and running. Blue.
