FWIW.
I live on the Sand Hill Crane flyway and a large flock was heading north on Feb 5.

My wife snapped this photo in our backyard today, it’s a Sharp Shinned Hawk:

He’s eyeing our bird feeders, where lots of finch, Jays, and Doves like to congregate. A year ago I watched a Coopers Hawk swoop down and pluck a ring neck dove off a power wire. He subdued it on the ground, then flew off. This hawk seems to be contemplating the same.
We get those in our yard. They pick off Mourning Doves in mid-air.

Here's a Downy Woodpecker at our bird bath.

I looked in the cupboard and found some outdated pancake mix. Mixed it up, added cooking oil for more calories, and popped it in the microwave. Looked out just now and a couple birds were chowing down. Think I will make some more as I found some very old rice.

Please cook the rice.

I visited Mom this afternoon to shovel her sidewalk and doorstep. Mom feeds the birds daily. She was sad to see a Robin lying dead just outside her backdoor. It's the cycle of life.
