Mars Lander

so I assume it didn't crash & burn on entry ?

I'll watch later

Waiting for the first "landing on Uranus" comment.
:popcorn2:

Be a laugh if somebody pasted a lizard alien on one of the camera filters.

It is truly impressive what these folks are able to achieve. I've been a fan of how thousands of people can work together like this for a common goal and all are winners for their collective effort.
I wish for a government that can operate as this group does.:)

Truly amazing effort. It must be difficult giving instructions to a machine when it takes 7 minutes for the instructions to arrive.

I read that the Craft had already landed by the time that NASA found out about it. :)

Done some stuff for NASA/JPL, a smart bunch of people in a wide range of disciplines. Must be nice to work there.

First pictures are in.

I personally made (invented fabrication technique) for some unique parts for CRT retrofit in military jets of several kinds in the late eighties. Had the opportunity to sit in on a few meetings with British and US airforce folks.
A small participant like me being included and accepted in something like that gave me insight into how and why many thousands can be motivated for a goal. I was treated as an equal to all at the meeting.
My point on this is that in that environment every part or position is considered vital. It is true teamwork.

That time delay and dealing with it is fascinating. Communicating with and controlling some of our deep space probes can take days or weeks just for contact and response. (the light of the sun is nine minutes old when we feel it)

Anything like this is just fantastic in my mind. Science is incredible. Can't help but remember watching the original "Cosmos" tv series with Carl Sagan back in the late '70's - early '80's. The man had a passion for the universe as strong as could be. For those that are into this kind of thing, I'd totally recommend watching the original 13 part series. Even though that series is 40+ years old now many of the facts and bits of info he discussed are still relevant today. Fascinating viewing if you're into it.

I try getting my grandchildren interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Not everything is social media, sports, and celebrities.
When I was a kid, I remember the first moon landing on July 20, 1969 - I had to look it up.
Watching on an old fuzzy black and white vacuum tube TV set.
