For Sale *Not Mine* 1968 426 Hemi Block & Heads $9800

Call me crazy but that's half way to a crate hellcat engine.....as much as I want a 426 hemi these prices are getting past the "it's not worth it" point...in my opinion....

It may be worth a bit more to someone who is looking specifically for a '68 block. Being one of only 2400+ made in that year.....not easy to find.

If i had the extra cash.

I would be going to get that.
Standard bore is big deal to me.

Aside from getting the block magna fluxed and having a naked eye, its a pretty bug risk buying a used block no? I mean, what could a guy fo visually to ensure the block he is buying is not compromised?

Pretty much need to mag it alright. Where else you going to buy one? I know the price seems high but it really isn't. A new block is about $4800 and they don't even look like an original one anymore. This also includes heads and an intake it looks like. When I sold my 66 Hemi Coronet the first edition MP block held back the sale I think. To me I liked it because the block had no issues and was standard bore but buyers want an original block in their Hemi car.

Ive been playing with Hemis a long time this still is a 54 year old block. Why in heavens would you spend any money on a block that old . Sure maybe you can, but think about it its prolly been beat to death.

Being standard bore I don't think it's beat to death. The racers would bore them and deck them right away, then kick the rods out the side. I looked for a 66 block for my Coronet and those ones always seemed to have main saddle cracks, the later ones are better it seems.

For the same reason any of us rebuild the original numbers matching engines in our 50+ year old cars I guess.

I would want it magna fluxed BEFORE I bought it. It's way too risky for that much money. Like @snakeoil24 said, most of those Hemis were beaten to death.

if you need one & IF it's still good
IMO it's still about $2k too much, even in today's crazy values
if the parts are even still good no cracks, virgin iron, not beat to ****

no internals, no rockers "expensive", no intake,
valve-covers/oil-pan, carbs etc. like $6k-$7.5k+ of parts min.
all stuff that will be needed, going back to OE or hotrodded
could be even much more costs

if it was about 2500 miles closer I'd look at it
& offer much less if it panned out

lots of If's

someone with a real 68 hemi project less engine etc
that needs one, it will be worth more to them
for my purpose, it doesn't add more value, it's less

I think its whats called a seasoned block... standard bore with no explosions.

The block as I see it is as good or better than a one that was raced.

A very fair price too

I bought one last year (1971 block) in the same condition and it was worth it for sure. 7gs bare block......... happy i did:)

My opinion only.

If the seller is who I think it is & I'm pretty sure it is I'd be very cautious of anything he's selling

you can but a new block from callies 4500, stagev heads 2600 intake 400
crank kit with diamond pistons 2200 rocker assembly 3k

this may seem like a silly question, but cosmetically speaking, would this setup ‘look’ like a traditional 426 hemi under the hood? Are those heads compatible with factory valve covers, intake, etc?

Any pics Snake oil? Not sure if I have ever seen this setup or maybe I have and did not know it.
