RIP Bruce. Those were hot back when I was in about 5th grade.

RIP Mr Meyer, my God rest your blessed soul! I Love Dune Buggies! 440'

Rest In Peace! Always wanted to build a dune buggy, just never did..

Missed a deal by minutes on a Manx recently. VW 2086cc (might have the engine size wrong) that made that pretty desirable. The buyer had just left tbe seller's shop maybe two minutes before I got there. Always have wanted one, even though air-cooled VWs and I historically don't interact well.

RIP Bruce

I had a Myers Manx 1968 gel-coat metal flake green
(early 80's) got the body/kit, rollbar, seats, windshield frame, peddles, shifter
second hand & was never installed
VW bug chassis/pan, shortened 10" IIRC custom swingarms,
a 73 1600 dual-port engine, with a Judson Vein belt-driven SC/blower,
thru a down draft Webber, extractor/header exhaust/stinger,
scat distributor & alum deg.'d hub etc.
lil' stuff more than doubled the HP to about 170-180

That thing was fun as you can imagine
(wish I had photos)
big ol' N50/15's on 15x10 slots on the rear & G/60's upfront
all under the body, sitting sort of low
beat a lot of 60's era muscle car too, fast out of the hole
it'd stick & get, pissed off a few people :poke:
be 3-4 lengths out on them, but topped out at like 98mph
you didn't really want to go too much faster,
short wheelbase & light

it was fun offroad too, if it wasn't too technical
also made it up to Spider Lake on the Rubicon Trail
too much father it was too tech. too big of rocks

thanks for all the great memories Bruce

Myers Manx!

1. Meyers Manx Inc., originally B.F. Meyers & Co., is the original producer of fiberglass dune buggy kits. We now produce the Manxter and Kick-Out kits, modern re-imaginings of the classic and iconic Meyers Manx. Our warehouse is located in sunny Southern California. Your kit can be picked up or we coordinate with the shipper of your choice.

2. The Meyers Manx dune buggy is a small recreationally-oriented automobile, designed initially for desert racing by Californian engineer, artist, boat builder and surfer Bruce F. Meyers.

Company is still going strong!
