426 hemi 3 bolt cam gear with roller cam and cam button how much clearance needed
between cam bolt heads and cover? I have the camshaft end play set at .006 and have .035 clearance between the bolt heads and timing cover is this enough? with the button
I can see how they wouldn’t touch just wondering what the norm is on a setup
like this.

I set mine with 0.005-0.010 between nylon cam button and timing cover. With that space, as long as the cam bolts clear, all good. That should give you minimum 0.025 clearance from cam bolts.

get some modeling clay put on cover then install on engine then remove and mic the clay thickness for what your clearness is.

Just remember to make a note of the timing chain gasket that you used. Different brands are different thickness so if you change the gasket your end play will change. Superformance used to sell 4 or 5 different timing chain gaskets with thickness ranging from 0.020 to 0.060. That was a great way to adjust the end play without having to grind anything.
