If running a roller cam and want the factory type water pump housing in my opinion this is the only way to go.

Sweet. Too bad I did not know of this. Just sand blasted and painted my old one.

I spent a few hours reinforcing a stock cover only to find it still flexed. So I found this one and it’s all billet with a nice cover at the cam button and a sweet cover with an opening for checking
end play. Yes it’s expensive but tucks in nice behind the factory style water pump housing and zero flex with a nice look.

Yep, that is what it is designed to do. I've been making them for about 20 years now. Hard to keep up with demand lately. Been selling each batch before I can get the next set machined. People spending their stimulus money I guess!

And measuring and setting the cam end play is a breeze!

That is why I include the little set up plate. Most guys won't have the ability to make a plate like that to measure end play so I just make the plates and include them with each cover. Only costs me a few bucks and it makes it easier for guys working in their garage to do the job correctly.

The TDC pointer is also adjustable so you can compensate for machining errors in the crank or the damper.

I just purchased this timing cover. It just arrived a few days ago. My first impressions are that it is very well made and seems very strong. I was just reading the instructions and it says if you are using the factory cast-iron water pump housing you will have to grind some of housing to clear the timing cover. So I put the cover on my engine and held up the water pump housing to the engine. It seems to fit but it also seems to hit the timing cover at the upper right hand corner.

@Beekeeper I was wondering how the fit was on your engine? Did you have any clearance issues and if so where were they? I just don't want to screw up the water pump housing by grinding in the wrong area.

One small thing that I thought was strange. I also purchased the bolt package. It came with 8 washers. Four of the washers don't seem to fit anything. They are too small for the larger bolts and while they fit the smaller bolts they do not fit the recessed holes for the smaller bolts.

Just to be clear. I am not knocking Andy's timing cover. Quite the contrary. It is a very well made, well designed cover. I am happy I bought it. I am just trying to get this engine put together correctly the first time.

I also found the bolts that came in the package were useless.
Believe they made the scrap bin And probably part of a honda now.
I ended up at the hardware store to get the correct bolts.
A bit disappointed, but thought it was just a random mix up.

Well for me the bolts were fine just 4 of the washers didn't fit anything. Which is not a big deal at all.

I was trying to set the camshaft end play. Unfortunately, I ground a little too much off the button and my end play is 0.025". I called Summit and they won't have more buttons in stock for 3+ weeks. So I was able to locate a 0.015" shim from an industrial supply house which came in today. I will put that behind the button and it should give me the correct end play. The shim is exactly the same O.D. as the metal ring that goes behind the button. I am using the Comp Cams nylon button because that was what was recommended by the cam manufacturer. What I wanted to say was I didn't think having the access panel on the timing cover was all that important but boy was I wrong about that. The access panel saved me a lot of work!! I would have had to take the panel on and off about 6 times and I am still not done. I am very happy I got this timing cover.

As far as the factory water pump housing fitting I am going to get the cam button done correctly and seal up the engine. I read on Moparts that Andy said the factory water pump housing should clear this timing cover. So I will worry about that after I get the short block done. Hopefully, it goes in without any modification or very little modification.
