Ignition upgrade ?

I've had the street fire in my Charger for about 5 years now.
It works very well.

I think that’s the way I’m gonna go firecore dizzy and street fire! Just hope it’s easy to hook up! Lol

One of my cars has the MP electronic distributor with a jegs hi-rev 7500 ecu, the other has a pertronix ignitor2 in it....was honestly thinking of picking up a small block points distributor and going with pertronix on both. It works and is very simple. I don't race, only street driven cars so I don't think an msd box would benefit me at all, I've thought about going that route before too.

For a street car there is no reason to ditch the OEM ignition.

Make a junkyard run and buy a couple 40 year oldbignition boxes...more reliable than any of the Chicom junk.

When we built my son' s SBC for his dirt mod my engine shop sold him a USA made MSD at a better than Street Fire price since he had too many chinese parts die.

Factory ignition is tough to beat for reliability and low/no maintenance. Unless you have very high compression, forced induction etc... not much extra benefit for the extra $$$ money to get these other ignition set ups. Is your engine stock or highly modified ? Millions of cars on the road with the factory setup.

You can keep your points and use them with the Street fire.
Never have to change them again, just lube the wear block occasionally.
When I changed from the "orange" box to the street fire with no other changes I could tell the difference starting and at idle.
Then when I drove it I noticed it started pinging.
Had to back off the timing. That part I found surprising.
No other changes I'd just driven the car a few days previously.

That looks like an MSD box with Summit's name on it. If so it will work fine with any magnetic dual wire pick-up dist. It can also be made to work off points or have another module fire it. We had the MSD 6A on my sons car with fuel injection and just ran the MSD like always not controlled by any other module then the MSD. Later he bought the locked in Hyper Spark dist and then we changed it to have the Sniper FI module control the ign. MSD gives to option to work with many different ignitions. You need to get an little MSD book/mag that comes with MSD as it shows you how to wire up many ignitions and not get the pick-up wires crossed. Or have a friend who knows how to wire it as its not hard. Good luck , Ron
