Seems finding Dana 60 shaft shims is a thing of the past but got to thinking, is it better to install them under the cup in the housing instead of under the cone on the shaft? If it's better to go under the cup, I'll knock it back out but have never had any issues installing them under the cone. If it's 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other, anyone have any shims for the shaft? Shaft size is 1.625 ID and the OD of the shims are around 2.250. I ordered some and they were listed as such but came in for installation under the cup instead :(

Much easier to change shims under the cup.
Mike
Well, I have 'dummy' bearings for that......so it's actually easier than having to hammer out the cup for each adjustment. I guess I could go ahead and make a dummy cup too. Hey, would that be a falsie? :D

I made a “setup” cup, Cranky.

Cass doesn't have them? I'd almost bet he even hangs on to used ones.
I sent him an email but no reply yet. Maybe I need to just text his phone instead....and I hang onto used shims too if they are worth saving but after doing a couple of other 60's and a 70, I'm running short on new and used ones.

Ratech Manufacturing has carrier shims # 1103 that measure 1.640 id and 2.250 od ( for Dana 28 rear axle for 1984-97 Ford Ranger ) and also part # 1100 with same id and od for GM 8.5 and car 12 bolts -- should be available direct from them or thru Summit Racing

Thanks! Used to deal with Ratech all the time when I was doing more rear end work.....and didn't see that part number because I was looking under pinion shims heading!
