New micro oil filter.

I picked this up the other day when I was at Bob Mazolini racing. It’s a stainless steel micro oil filter. It’s a higher flow than normal oil filter and it has an easily removable filter element. Basically at each oil change you just remove the filter element clean it and then reinstall it.

I always liked those but the thing that bothered me is No anti drain back valve.

I’ve got one on my 540, Ray Barton puts one on every engine he builds. Haven’t changed oil but once on it, so not a lot of feed back here. Looks like a well made filter assembly. Reasonably compact, but kinda pricey.

Looking at the label, 1.9 gallons per minute of flow is not very much. Thr Melling Mopar High VOLUME pump is capable of roughly 6x that amount. Does this filter element have a bypass valve? Anti drain back valve? Whst is the pressure drop thru the filter at max flow with what viscosity oil. Important considerations.....

Sorry Tad, but a "fad" brought over from the experimental aircraft industry going back some 30 years. I'd sooner cut open a regular Wix filter and dig through the pleats, if there appears to be a reason to do so, then clean that screen every oil change before I can reinstall it.
