Good morning.

As mentioned in my intro post, I'm on the verge of taking on a '71 Road Runner project.

Scouring the internet, it feels like parts availability for the '71 might be difficult? Or am I just looking in the wrong places?

Depends on what your needing. Some reproduction stuff out there and some fairly easy to fine used and somethings are like hens' teeth.

There's lots of parts available here on FBBO and great members to deal with. Just start a parts wanted ad and hold on tight.

Still inventorying things in my head before I pull the trigger, but the most immediate that come to mind would be a right front fender (seems like places like AMD don't make complete fenders for this model). The fender in question is rusted through at the top in a weird spot...like it had a battery or something sitting on top for a long time. Figured a full fender would be cheaper than paying a metal magician for fab the repair but it seems like 71 fenders are made of unobtainium.

Interior pieces?

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if I'm about to buy an odd duck that is going to be hard to find parts for....it's been so long since I did this (25 years was my last resto).

Show a picture. Sounds like it could be one that could be repaired if the rest is not rotted. As far as fenders some times you need to use a few bad fenders to make a good one..

71-74 interior parts are somewhat plentiful except for some of the 71 only parts.

Most of those can be replaced with 72-74 parts and they will work but not be technically correct.

Body parts OTOH it seems parts collectors/vendors don't seem to stock very much.

I just sold a decent PS fender- 1 quarter sized rust hole and 1 tiny ding.

Is the rust on the flat top?

Go for it. 71 RR parts are not unobtainium.

Thanks. Here's the best shot I have. Rest of the fender is good, as is the inner.

A good metal guy can splice that whole section in to where no one would know.... That section is not a common area for rot so even a fender that is rotted will probably have a good section like that there...

Thanks for the reassurance. Like I said, it's been so long since I've played this game, I have to get myself to slow down and stop building the car in a week, inside my head....but I am trying to anticipate major show stoppers.

Marathon, not a sprint right?

All projects have their hard to find parts. Usually it the single year trim pieces, but they will turn up if you keep looking. Mechanical parts are the easiest to come by. Don’t let that stop you. There are a few Mopar only salvage yards, a few people on this forum deal in parts, moparmarks comes to mind. Good luck.
