That's very good to know. Can you send a close up pic of the slot? How did you make the slot in the sheet metal?
 
I cant get a shot right now the car is away for the winter. The slot is where the two firewall sections meet at the low point. What you can do is cut a slot about 1 inch above the welds. Then pry it away from the inner firewall to leave a slot. You need to put seam sealer where the upper and lower firewalls meet. This will keep water from getting to the welds. Also there is a small rubber flap that goes over the slot

I have a paint and body guy coming out next week to look at the car and give me some prices. He was saying that some people paint the trunk and engine bay black. I told him it was my understanding that they were frame color.
You don't want black paint, unless the car is all black. Keep it body color under the hood and in the trunk.
