Identification of SB vs BB K-Member for 73/74

have you had any problems with the engine mounted sideways or did you do some modifications ? i have a SB k-member with a 400 BB in it just swaped it with no modifications but i have a vibration in the drivshaft ay 50MPH +, turned out my driveshaft is short , will extend it and see what happens

I cut the SB mounts off and welded BB mounts on that K-member.. Transmission was crooked in the tunnel. As you can see how the SB mounts are offset by the time you go back to the end of the tail shaft it's way off.. The BB are parallel. Then when I redid the car I put the right BB K-Member in as that one was rusted out in the back mounts. I notched that K-member and boxed it in so I can run most oil pans.

When the engine is sitting crooked in the chassis that will change pinion angle. Pinion angle is not just the horizontal plane, if the driveline is not parallel with the chassis the Ujoints angles will be wrong. That is why you guys are having vibration issues. Driveshaft length is not the cause of the vibration after the big block swap, pinion angle is.

Not to hijack, but, I have a question regarding part numbers for these K's. Isn't there more than one part number for at least the small block K as one has sway bar mounts and another doesn't? Remember, on these, the mount is a welded in piece, not bolted. I've seen a number of SB cars with NO front sway bar and the mounts weren't present.

I show 3 part numbers in 73
3642745 Small Block
3642747 Slant 6
3642749 Big Block

In 74 the above part numbers were used till 10-15-73 and after changed to:
3817839 Small Block
3817137 Slant 6
3817135 Big Block

I need a BB k member or a set of conversion mounts. any one have what im looking for?

When swapping a small block K-frame out to a BB K-frame are the mounts to the frame the same?

Thanks,
Moparmayhem

The K frame for 75-78 big block B bodies will also fit, there were a lot of Cordobas and Chargers with 400s in them. You may want to clearance the passengers inner fender, it can be a very tight fit with headers. Also be aware that there are 2 water pump housings, drivers side lower hose up to 72, and passenger side lower hose 73 and up. This also affects what power steering brackets to use because they must be the same as the housing used.

Thank you all very much for the input, still trying to decide which is the best route
