Pulled the poly 318 engine from from 65 coronet. Replaced it with a 87 Diplomat 318. Outlet on the water pump is on the passenger side. Was wondering if I could put the 65 pump onto the 87 engine? Thanks!

Hoe does it look ? Just take a few measurements. You will have to take it off anyway.

My understanding is that water pumps are interchangeable between the A and LA 318s
Note: some of the bolts on the A engine go through to the water jacket and have to be sealed. Not sure about the LA. Be sure to check.

The timing cover and balancer will have to be changed also from the poly. The change came in 1970 with the aluminum water pump.

I believe you are correct. Timing marks on my POLY are on the left (looking at the front of the engine). If memory serves, most LA engines are on the right.
