Insurance for a real weekend classic driver ?

I have Hagerty. I stopped using Grundy after they couldn’t figure out how to remove a Mustang off of my policy even though I sent them a notification when I sold it. This was two years after I sold the car plus i didn’t list it in any of my renewals. Long story short they had to issue me a new policy and then the state came after me claiming I was driving my cars without insurance. FYI, it took me a year from start to finish to get the Mustang removed from Grundy’s system and that was 3 years from when they were officially notified that I no longer owned that car. And Grundy is owned by Philadelphia Insurance.

Ditto, moved to Hagerty after they vastly improved their California prices. Grundy are a bunch of idiots, they insured me for two years before they figured out "our bad, we just noticed you don't personally own the garages where you store a couple of your cars so we can't insure you". Who the **** did you think I was, Jerry ******* Seinfeld? Dumbfucks.

Gentlemen, which classic car insurance would write a policy for a car with an 8-71 blower and Nitrous? Thank you

First question: Will you insure a classic collector car with a rollbar?
Grundy: "no."
Hagerty: "no."
J.C. Taylor: "oh hell no!"
Northwest: "yes"
My choice was clear.
Grundy had no problems insuring my car with a roll bar

With a cage and a blown Hemi I'm with Grundy for years! Never a claim.
I attend the grand national roadster show, and all those companies had booths to sell their collector car insurance. Those are the answers i got asking each company rep that question.
I realize that northwest is probably a broker, maybe for grundy, which is maybe why others have had no trouble with them, but i am relating what i was told.

Try the prices at Classic car insurance.

Did online Quotes for my 62 Plymouth Fury wagon Hagerty $218. Grundy $177. so is Hagerty worth an extra $50. ???

I've had American Collectors on my cars for years. The policy premium hasn't changed but I've never had a claim. They use stated value but increase it as the values change.

They did that crap to me every year, I had to call them and tell the to fix it! They said that it's a yearly appraised increase, I told them not without my approval you don't! They kept on doing it until the dumbshit's couldn't/didn't change my address when notified, but they could send me notice of cancellation for non-renewal. Screw them!!!

Automotive insurance companies. One of my favorite subjects. Insurance in general is a gamble. You're gambling that when you need them, after paying in regularly, that they are going to take care of you when the need arrises unless you were trying out for your own "Jackass" show. They are gambling that you are never going to need help after you've been paying in. Some look out for you but there are many who look for any possible reason to leave you holding the bag. Their advertising logo's can be very deceitful. In good hands until they drop you like a hot potato. Like a good neighbor until you need help and they suddenly get deaf. On your side until they choose to leave you hanging. Aka, Allstate, State Farm, Allied/Nationwide. There are MANY others. I can't remember which collector car company I asked, but I asked who the parent company that owns them was. I rattled off the above 3 offenders. I'm sure it was one of those as they suddenly would not give me anymore info. For sure you need to find out who the parent company is. When I managed a production body shop, I got to witness just how good come are and are not. Feedback from forums like these are where you'll get some feedback from the insured's perspective and not the company P.R.

Just call it what it really is!! It's "Legalized Extortion"!!!!!

Yup. Had to leave to talk to a contractors rep so I'm back for more. I HAD a 70 Challenger. In the fall of 07 we got to experience a wildfire when we lived an hour or so N.E. of San Diego. My car was in an old turkey barn on the property, we lived in a modular home park[ think mobile home's but way nicer], that was about 300 yards away from our actual house. 07 was a tough year for us. My wife's nephew died from cancer in may, my dad passed away in June, one of our furry kids had to be put down in January plus lots of other stuff. Around may I believe I got a letter from Parrish Heacock, the carrier for the e body, that asked if I wanted to pump the insured value of the car up as the collector values were skyrocketing. Replied yes on the form plus I put on it that we had moved. That was the 3rd time I notified them that we moved. So all the death and life stuff is going on the rest of the year and since I had stuff going on in life I didn't pay much attention to the mail. Fire hit in October. We had to do a mandatory evacuation. What do you take, what do you leave? We had 30 minutes to evacuate. Loaded up my truck with the furry kids, food/meds for them, clothes, important papers, guns[ don't ever leave guns behind if you ever evacuate], computer and then left. My wife finished buttoning up the house and went to work as she figured they would need the help. She was a 911 dispatcher for Cal Fire. A week later we could return back home. Looked like a war zone with all the destruction. Saw what was left of the barn and my car. Scrap metal. I had old driveshafts in there that blew apart like pipe bombs due to the air pressure inside from the heat. Later on I call Parrish Heacock and tell them what happened. They said " we would like to help you but you didn't pay your bill and the last one that was sent to you was returned". I said I had sent the change of address notice to them before I moved and after plus on the last update from them. Of course they had no record of that. And the post office failed as the street address was the same, just the space number changed. The letter carriers we sometimes got could not think. We later found out that the post office in our town was a training facility. Perfect example of the feds hiring brain dead people that would not be able to get a job anywhere else. That place had all sorts of issues. So between both I got bupkis for help. One thing I learned from that, since sometimes people working for various companies are brain dead and don't do their job, is you may have to bodily threaten or stand over someone with a club to make them update your address. Since then we've turned into nazi's on stuff like this.

I got mine with state farm with my other vehicles and both houses, just declared a value sent them pictures all around and interior and under the hood , then I got a low mileage discount if I stay under 4000 miles a year, my agent does a great job for us and all our kids with decent prices

Good luck with SF.... 1 of their policy holders crashed into the back of me @50MPH.. He was cited for reckless driving but when negotiating with SF, it took 12 months to settle the property damage and 18 months to settle the physical injury damage. Every step with SF was a fight, left me no choice but I hired an attorney which made relations with SF even more challenging. To conclude a lot has to do with the assigned claim manager, in my example the SF claim manager was very uncooperative.. ..

Just ny $0.02....

Ya , I've worked in body shops most of my life , my boss banned one allstate adjuster from our shop , his boss had to come down and do his claims , funny how they can be so helpful after that

Ive had Taylor and Haggerty....never an issue

Check the Hagerty policy, that $50 is probably their subscription price for their "Hagerty Drivers Club". You get roadside assistance and a bi-monthly magazine and some other stuff. I believe it adds about 49 bucks to the yearly price.
