Coal is too expensive. A lot of coal fired power plants have been shuttered in the past few years.

Due to end of life and more regs.
Around here the coal plants have been updated to burn cleaner.

Electric vehicle have been around since the Late 1800's!! They are still not for this countries style of driving!!! If you live in Paris, on streets that were designed for horses, shop around the corner for your daily grocery's - as you have no space in your 16th century building for a "frig.", you live a few hundred miles from another countries border, have no place to park a vehicle, Etc. etc. then maybe a plug in vehicle that can go 80 miles on a charge might be for you. I DO NOT LIVE IN EUROPE, NEVER HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN HOW THEY GET AROUND. As they for the most part CAN NOT travel 3,000 plus miles "WITHOUT PAPERS" in their country. Let them have the manufacture ability and take care of the by-product waste necessary to make those batteries, for the vehicle - again that have been around since the late 1800's. Have been a tech working on vehicles for 50 plus years and seen the great things they have produce in the auto industry, and even WORSE had to fix them. You want one BUY IT just do not force me to. And do not try and tell me how great they are, and that they DO NOT pollute. Everything pollutes. That at this time are simply NOT MEASURING WHAT ELECTRIC VEHICLE POLUTE. PUT YOUR HEAD OVER THE BATTERIES AS THEY ARE CHARGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What will be there life in a land fill? ETC. Since a new outfit has taken over the cost of fuel in my area has gone from $2.42 a gallon to - so far- $2.85 nuff said. Take to some of the owners of electric vehicles that have caught on fire, sitting in driveways, with no keys even in them. What was the toxic content of that smoke????

China will do it for us.
Biden signed an order that allows China to purchase our electrical infrastructure. IE, "the grid". First, they will force us into electric cars, then they will hand the key to those cars(the electricity) to China to control. Well, halfway there anyway aren't we.
