Can someone please show/tell me maybe with pictures also how the coupler on the end of the steering gear goes back together? I thought I had it right but the wheel doesn't turn nice and smooth like it did before I had the column out. The pillows will go in either way and as far as the (lock clip ??) I just don't know. Thanks, Dave

Mopar Connection Magazine recently did an article on rebuilding a steering column that will help you.

Here ya go. Did you install the roll pin?

This one is a little different looking because its a 1962 but the shoes and clip are the same.

Look closely at the pointed ridge on the shoe. You probably have them front to back instead of side to side.

The clip goes under the shoes to hold them outward

After you get the coupler assembly together you will notice a small hole partially drilled in the shaft itself just above coupler. When the column assembly is installed in the car that hole should be approximately 13/16 from the coupler body. You can reach that demension by pulling up or down on the column assembly before tightening clamp under dash. This will center shoes in coupler body.

I take it he's working on a 1967. Hope it's the same measurement. Is power steering different?

Thanks so much guys for the help. Pictures are worth so much. Yes, I did put roll pin back in but pretty sure I got the shoes in wrong, and I know I got the spring clip in wrong. Your help(s) is more appreciated than I can say. BTW, I couldn't find a blow up of the coupler in the FSM, seems like it should have there. . Mopar Connection Mag. huh. Gonna see if I can google it. I do get Mopar Action. Love E Booger.

I know this is an old post, but do you have any idea how to install this clamp? I have a big block which makes it a little tight in the engine bay. I have tried, but I wind up being perplexed at this.

You put the closed end over the top of the coupler and the open "tines" into the roll pin hole on both sides. Might take some doing to get them into the roll pin holes, but it will go.

Ok, I will attempt again. Maybe if I stare at it hard enough it will comply. Thanks for your help.
