Replacing Geared Hose Clamps With Factory Style.

Completing the 5000 mile maintenance on my Charger. Lots of time to complete the "other" to do list items as well. One task is to install the original factory spring type hose clamps that I have had around for years. My concern is the fact that the hoses have had the gear clamp style on for all that time and are probably seated that way making the original style difficult to seat. The hoses are Goodyear replacements from years ago. Anyone share any thoughts on the issue. As an alternative, who makes quality replacement rad hoses in the original style? This is a numbers matching Charger R/T.

Already have the hose clamp pliers. Vintage, from a Mopar dealership even.
 
Got my hoses from Mancini. Has correct part # stamped on them as original.
 
A wide band clamp removed and then a thin wire clamp in its place. What could look wrong?

Corbin clamps were the fastest thing that the factory could install and not have to adjust.
Not everything the factory did was to be the best. Sometimes just what was cheaper and faster on the assembly line.
 
I've actually come to like spring clamps much better than screw clamps.

The injury potential is different, but also moderately less.

The failure potential is substantially less.

With the proper tools, operation is almost a wash.
 
I prefer corbin clamps. Always applying clamping pressure. Band-style can loosen if you don't bend the band after tightening.
 
I like that I don't run the risk of getting a deep slice from the often razor sharp screw clamp.

Usually in an area of skin that's already covered in a thick layer of grease, and possibly a finger or thumb tip.

Nothing puts a damper of car work like a deep, bleeding wound.

Rare: somewhat
Show car: sometimes, but I do drive it. Hence the 5000 mile maintenance under way.

I too like & use the Corbin clamps. As the rubber gets old the clamps continue to apply constant pressure, where the geared ones don't.

It would be a good time to get new hoses. Put the old ones in the trunk, a used spare is better than no spare.
 
Back in the day (actually, still to this day ) a little swipe on the inside edge of the hose with the ball of Indian head & pop on the corbin clamp, and you have a leak-free hose connection. I must've done it 3,459,394,715 times. (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration.... )

I prefer Loctite 518, but same idea.
