Has anyone ever used a DIY glass polishing kit to "improve" the quality of their windshield?
I know I cannot completely restore the windshield, but would like to get it somewhat better. I have quite of wiper "sheen" that I cannot feel with a fingernail, but really glares when sun is right. Looking to just get by for a while until I can replace the W/S.

I used "Bar Keepers Friend" A cleanser that most stores carry.Lots of elbow grease.Did it on my 68 Valiant a few years back.Didn't have the guts to use a buffer though I have been told the cleanser and buffer works very well, just don't get the glass hot.

Look up the videos on YouTube about polishing glass. You can buy 3M glass polish
which has Cerium Oxide in it and use a fast buffer with a Rayon pad.

We (not me though) buffed lots and LOTS of glass, at the graphic arts camera manufacturer i worked for. The equipment we used was exactly what zyzzyx mentioned. It works.

If you are a cheapo, The Cooktop cleaner "Cermabrite" has a similar polishing compound in it (Feldspar Silicate). Its cheap and you can get it at the mart.

Personally, I would just use Bar Keepers Friend (its non-abrasive Oxalic acid) and then clean and follow with a clay bar workout. Should be as smooth as a baby's bottom.

While Feldspar will scratch glass, You'll be polishing for forever because it's not aggressive
enough. And when you say to use Barkeeper's Friend, you say it's non-abrasive Oxalic acid.
Non-abrasive means no cutting so no scratch removal. I've used Bon-Ami, and it contains
Feldspar. It's great for taking mineral deposits off of glass, but again, you'll be there forever!

If your cheap try newsprint. Works well on all types of window glass and mirrors.

+1 on the Cerium Oxide, it really works. You can buy it direct from places like Amazon in powder form too (mix it with water) if you want to save a few bucks, just be extra careful not to inhale any.
