I want to get rid of the vacuum operated system. I have seen some alternatives, but they all seem too complicated. I have this idea of using one linear actuator connected in the center of a rod driving the doors at the same time. Has anyone seen this done? I want to stay away from using two motors ,which I have seen.
Thanks, anything you can think of will be appreciated.

Good luck on that idea. In the end by the time you come up with sourcing and making up the items needed you will be just as complicated. Give you an A for the idea. I am pretty sure it has been discussed before. Looking at a 1970 charger or a lot of C bodies will give you an Idea as to what is needed.

why not use 2 linear actuators, you just need to get the correct throw, and connect them to a reversing relay

I do have the vacuum parts but they need rebuilding and from what I have seen from friends cars they don't work well. I guess,an electrically actuated door would be more reliable, and if synched well would be driven at the same rate with no lag.

Thanks for the input. This is the way I want to go with this. As long as they can be synched exactly,it should work. There is a system using two motors, but I am thinking there would be problems with synchronizing the motors. An actuator would be more reliable,I think, in the long run.

Well let us know when you get it done.

Why not just using the electricals form a 70 or 71 and adapting it to the 68 doors. Like in no since in designing new something already done.

I've owned well over a dozen 68 & 69 Chargers for 45 years & have never had an issue. When I turn the lights on, they've always worked very well and behind the wheel, I don't see the split second lag in doors opening. Seems to me that fabricating all that is needed to convert to electric would be a lot harder than finding two working vacuum pods and a good vacuum can. But that's just me.

Vacuum....

Electric....

When they are right they work well every time.. simple system in reality I wouldn’t convert one because of that... imo
