Corvette.jpg

My intention is to drive it for the summer or so and then review either selling it or dangling it as trade bait for the perfect '68 Charger RT that I have been chasing for a year or so (black, 4 speed, black interior, A/C, disc brakes, documented restoration etc.). Would consider a Demon right now though.

This is the first Chev that I have ever bought new, and only the second Chev that I have ever bought. The first was in 1976 when, as my first car, I bought a 1966 Chev Impala convertible (which was a complete piece of **** - I sure learned a lot from it).

If you held a gun to my head and made me buy a Vette, it would have to be a late 60's/early 70's unit. I don't care for the newer ones. But hey - some people like brunettes, and some like red-heads. Have fun with it!!

I'll wait for the ZR-1 version

I'd buy a 1990 ZR-1 instead. (Or if i had the money the 88/89 prototype)

I once owned a 74 454 AT red on red Vette, a 96 LT4 6 spd black on black and have driven a lot of C7's. I am definitely not a "Vette" guy but I do respect them. I am supposed to do some driving in the C8 this year, so we will see. I will say this, Vettes do provide a lot of "bang for the buck" as toys. My only real issues with them are more related to those who own them; within the Vette world there is a hexarchy wherein each era seems not to like the previous ones. Also, too many Vette owners think they own a "factory" race car.... That said, I would buy a Vette long before I'd buy a Rustang... (of any kind to include a Shelby)

If I got a brand X it would be a '98-'02 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 with T-tops and a 6 speed. I'm late to the LS party.

I think it's one of the best looking cars built in the past 25 years.

You are too right about the Vette owners. I am on the C8 forum on Facebook and I can tell you that I basically have nothing in common with them. It's like the car is a fashion accessory.

Im not a big corvette or mustang guy also.
But the fact that the mustangs have a backseat can be a pro... (Depending on what you want/need)

That said the only mustangs that i would buy are the 1971 Mach 1 429 or the 1967 Shelby GT 500.
But you can also get a nice mopar in this price range so... :moparsmiley:

If I got a brand X it would be a 79 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 with T-tops and a 4 speed.
I think it's one of the best looking cars built in the past 50 years.

I fixed that for you

Great car the money I think. I've only owned one GM and it was the worst vehicle I ever owned by far, 1979 Corvette. When that thing was a year old the A/C quit working, bad clutch, broken inner door pull/arm rest, broken power antennae, you name it that car had a problem with it, no power either. I guess I shouldn't have driven it as hard as I do my Dodges.

When I had my C3 back in the late 80's, the guys with the "newer" Vettes (complete with little black driving gloves) wouldn't waive or even acknowledge the older C3's. Then when I had the C4 (96) in the mid 2000's the C5 guys wouldn't give you the time of day. I went to a Corvette meet/show where all of the era's parked together; it was like there were 5 or 6 different parties with each era basically staying together. One guy was talking to me about Corvettes like they were the most exotic high performance cars ever invented, when he asked me why I chose the 96 I said "because I can't afford a Viper"... end of conversation... LOL about 3 months later I got a promotion and bought a 01 Viper ACR GTS and sold the Vette.

I can only imagine what its like now with the C8, no doubt there are some huge ego issue going on there. I think the C8 looks interesting, really looks like an exotic. In 2018 I worked a GM driving event where I ran the Corvette section, so I got a lot of seat time in C7's. They are cool in their own right and that LS can take a beating but to your point, no room in it and I much prefer my 10 Challenger RT.

Looks nice. Great color. Glad to see it on that type of lift instead of on a 2-post lift with arms in the wrong place!

Which trim level did you get? Overall,
what other options?

Corvette has always been great bang for the buck.

Id rather have a mid year vette if I were to have one. ‘63 split window or a ‘67 big block roadster.

70chall 440.....Corvette folks are a strange lot. I’ve had a couple corvettes. The last one a 2007 Z06. Took it to 185 at an airport event. The other an original 66 327 300 4 speed. But.....I went to a coffee place one morning and this good looking lady my age says to me that’s some mid life crisis. So I bought a Porsche.

Just the opposite for my taste. Had an '81
vette that was the biggest/slowest/most
underpowered piece of junk I've ever
owned. The southwest desert sun
redesigned all of the plastic parts in the
interior.
I've owned a '65 2+2, '85 GT vert, '12 & '14
GT. Not a one left me stranded. And all
performed and held together better than
the vette did.
But now that I'm building my first Mopar,
I've got a feeling my taste for Mustangs
will fade a bit.
The one vehicle that has been the toughest
and most dependable that I still have
(and bought new), is my '79 AMC Jeep CJ7.

The red Vette in the picture is a '73. Chrome bumpers on the back only. I talked to Larry Shinoda, the designer of the C2 Corvette and he told me the '73 had the look that designers were going for even in 1968.
