Does anybody know what grommets and breather caps will fit the knockout hole on a Mopar Performance cast aluminum valve cover? This is not the hole where you twist a breather or cap on and off its just the smooth hole.

I bought some from Mancini racing but the the O.D. is too big, the knockout hole diameter is about 1-1/8".

That same part number (without the Mancini MRE prefix) has been used on MP covers for at least fifteen years.

My valve covers are from 2004/5, could that make a difference then?

I will probably try the Ford grommets, today I will measure them again to make sure I didn't mess up the measurements. Thank you everybody for the information.

The grommets never fit that great anyway. I bought a pair of the cast covers twenty years ago and all they did was leak, eventually sold them and went back to stamped covers.

I bought a 74 Barracuda last fall that has the cast covers on it. I am tempted to keep them, but I really don’t feel like dealing with oil leaks over something so simple.

Was the leak always around the grommet? You didn't say whether yours were big or small block but this might interest you if it was somewhere else.

I still inspect the dog ears on every set big or small that cross my bench.

No, they were for a big block and they leaked at the gasket. The engine had a pair of late 452s and the mating surfaces were crappy - uneven and thin in spots. Even with the thick gaskets they would leak, just a drop or two but enough to smell the oil burning off and drive me crazy.

It wasn’t the fault of the valve cover other than the fact that they did not take into account for crappy factory head castings. I know I wasn’t the only one with this issue, and I do not know if it was limited to 452s.

Anybody know of a better gasket than the thick mopar ones? Something like the trick, reusable trans pan gasket that came out a few years ago would probably work great.

To help prevent leaks, I ground the bottom of the valve cover to sit flat on 452 heads. Head surface is not flat for valve cover, has bumps at the bolt holes on top that prevent gasket crush.

Mine are on a 906 head, when i first bought these valve covers I almost went broke trying to keep them from leaking. Before that I had cheap chrome covers but they sealed up decent. I just remember my dad saying 22 years ago "keep it stock and if not broke dont fix it", and also, "those first gen chargers were kinda ugly when they were new" haha.

My valve covers seal fine now just sorting out the grommets. I got the pcv valve grommet to fit barely and now need to find a breather. No big deal really, they are baffled.

I’m just going to go back to steelies. My last set was a NOS pair of blue anodized Direct Connection covers, should have pulled them before I sold the car.
