Ok I know it’s an A body, but I thought you guys might like this. Once again I bring my viewers a special MOPAR. Kinda like that 72 Topper X Charger I videoed a month or so ago this Dodge has the rare A65 option code for the GT package & has the 318 V8 as some GT’s were slant 6 cars. Not many know these exist even in the broad MOPAR world. My understanding is less than 3000 GT’s were made for the 71 model year. Although this car is no longer original you can’t blame the current owner as it’s been through others & who knows who modified it. Enjoy it for what it is fellas. The current owner cherishes the car & although far from original he will save it. Click on the link & my ole buddy Field Agent 880 will give you the tour
71 Dodge Dart with the rare for 71 GT package

I too own an A65 '71 Dart GT.

I have owned my '71 Dart GT since August 18th of 2003. Factory equipment on my car includes 318, 2-bbl, A904 auto (console shifter with bucket seats), A/C, PS (Federal), Rimblow steering wheel, manual drums (front & rear), 3.23:1 sure-grip 8 3/4" rear-end, it wears its original GY8 color (but was re-painted by the previous, previous owner).

When I first acquired my car I did some research with Chrysler Historical (an employee perk). The gentleman I spoke with told me there was a fire that destroyed many of the records they had. However he told me ~1.3% of the 96,*** production for 1971 were GT cars. Unfortunately, he had no recollection/information to differentiate between slant 6 vs. V-8 cars.

Every '71 GT will have the A65 on the fender tag, but I'm not sure every GT was a bucket seat console car. I've seen one other '71 GT, at the 2005 Mopar Nationals, that was a column shift with bucket seats but no console. Also, my car does not have "Custom" on the glove box door (or anywhere else). The only badging it has is Dart GT on the rockers and DODGE on the trunk lid.

I have made some changes to my car. I have added an Edelbrock LD4B intake & 1406 4-bbl carburetor with Lokar throttle and "kickdown" cables, MP electronic ignition, MP viscous fan, dual exhaust (factory manifolds with FlowMaster 40s using 2 1/4" pipes), SSBC front disc brakes, AutoMeter Z-Series gauges (tach, oil pressure, water temperature & volt meter), '70 Rallye wheels (14 X 5 1/2" (front factory) 15" X 7" (rear WheelVintiques) small bolt pattern), functional '70 twin hood scoops (4" holes and seals (from Detroit Muscle Technologies), V21 style paint treatment (hood, scoops and cowl using gloss black), a '69 Charger flip-top gas cap, 2012 Jeep Wrangler headlamps (on relays) and MAD Electrical style wiring modifications.

71 Dodge Dart with the rare for 71 GT package

My book says 1255 71 Dart GT's with the A65-GT package.

Interesting, we cut up one of these to make a street racer out of it back in the 80's. I thought it was just a V8 Dart.

Lots of info on these over on the FABO side.

IIRC-

71 GT's used the same side emblems as the 69.

72 GT's had one year only emblems below the fender/rocker area.

I've had the opportunity to buy one of each and probably should have.

Even in 67-69, the GT package was basically bucket seats and emblems.

No standard v8.

There was a gentleman (Bruce) on FABO.com who was "the expert" on '70-'71 Dart GT cars. He created a registry (I believe my car is #36 on Bruce's registry) and had all kinds of information about the cars. Unfortunately, Bruce passed away a few years ago. Sadly his registry also disappeared.

'70 Dart GT had the emblems on the rear quarter below the windows.

Only '71 Dart GT cars had the rocker panel emblems (under the front of the doors both sides of the car)).

No '72 Dart GT cars were made.
