Location
On the Ridge, TN
This storm system the last few days from the gulf up into the NE, tearing hell out of us here in the SE, just refuses to leave.
We're setting all sorts of records for rain (which means FLOODING in the foothills especially), tons of violence included as well - lots of tornados, hail, high winds, all of that especially in places like Alabama.

We've been taking direct lightning strikes left and right up here on the ridge and I've already had to rebuild the roads out here twice....
and will once this latest overnight stuff is finally done this afternoon sometime.
This is one of those times that choosing to build up on the side of the ridge makes
me look like a smart guy long-term - but we still have to deal with getting down OFF
here to go anywhere, too.

As a matter of fact, the main line of the front is almost here as I write this.
We've lost power, had trees come down, it's been brutal - but PRAYERS for those
dealing with the tornados and flooding!
Here it comes again, Gertie! Grab something solid and hang on!

An EF-1 tornado dropped down about 9 miles North East of our cabin yesterday afternoon. Stayed on the ground for about 5 minutes and travelled about a mile, wreaking havoc along the way...
Just before it touched down, the system apparently passed over our house because there was couple of really severe wind events a few minutes before then. I looked out the window at the back yard as the second blast happened and it was about a 60-90 mph gust. I survived a tornado event at FT Hood in 2009 that picked up 100 foot long tents and everything under them and tossed it all around like playthings. This gust was reminiscent of that for me. More than strong enough to knock down a human. I'm just glad there aren't any leaves on the trees yet. That would have been bad. Granted, an EF-1 isn't severe, as tornados go, but, we only get about one a year, if that. We have had 46, so far since record keeping began...
I feel for those impacted negatively by such events, it's scary 'chit' for sure.

We started our drive to Florida yesterday, drove through TN and we got lucky barely seen any significant storms. We must’ve had perfect timing driving right through a dead spot because the radar looked pretty nasty, just about the whole system was in the red. Currently in Calhoun GA, time to wake the kiddos and finish the drive to Sarasota.

Some people don't realize how lucky they are until they experience really bad weather. I have been VERY lucky all my life. Remember, things could always be worse.

Stay safe everyone! We had high wind gusts here on friday. I had to repair a roof on saturday that lost about a square of shingles in a couple of areas. I lost count of how many times now. Will be replacing the roof later this year, again, this time with steel I think. ruffcut

One of the first things we did to our cabin is have a standing seam metal roof put on. So far it has taken everything that has come at it..

Yes, the roof I referred to is on a house I built for a friend. I am attempting to steer him to a standing seam metal roof. 44 squares of roofing with 4 valleys. ruffcut

That's a good sized roof. We had a friend do ours, ex Marine officer. His crew was great. hard working and no bs. Did a great job too.

You have no control over Mother Nature, and she's got it under control! All you can do is hang on and CYA and ride it out. Good Luck

Weather here hasn't been nearly as bad but when the wind is in the 20-30mph range with higher gusts out of the south, I know there's a strong low to the north. Now the wind is out of the north so a low has crossed here. Shouldn't be long before the wind is out of the south again according to the weather guessers. Been a strange year as far as the weather goes. Hope y'all stay safe!!

It's been sailing up from the South East all day. Gusty but not dangerously so. intermittent rain..

The only thing of biblical proportions here in coastal Georgia this weekend are flies, bees, wasps, and hornets.
